Two people are dead and 17 others are hurt after a truck crashed into a group of bicyclists in Goodyear Saturday morning. Goodyear police say it happened on the Cotton Lane bridge near MC 85 around 8:15 a.m. A woman died at the scene and a man later died at the hospital. Police say the pickup truck that struck the group was towing a trailer and was driven by 26-year-old Pedro Quintana-Lujan. The Valley cycling community has seen tragedy after tragedy involving their own getting hit by cars.

Arizona drivers should be ashamed of themselves. One of the reason I moved outta that hole. No one can drive there. The amount of fatal car crashes that happen are absolutely insane.
I used to ride my bicycle up until my mid-30s recreationally. But honestly – I had so many close calls it finally dawned on me I'd get killed eventually if I forced myself on crowded busy roadways even with adequate shoulder space. The problem was never me: it was lead-footed motorists distracted with cell phones or loud music or what not not paying adequate attention to things around me – including my highly visible presence. I never went out at night without a ton of reflectors & handlebar-mounted lights. Later, when I switched over to a motorcycle, it was then I realized people just don't notice smaller objects around them. My big takeway from decades of bi-wheel traveling is this: we really need separate pathways & roadways for bicycles in this country or these tragegies will forever be present in our society.
Keep riding ten across & accidents will continue.

If you're riding a bike in the road than it is one-hundred-percent your responsibility to watch out for cars. I don't know what kind of democrat bullship their spewing but it's your responsibility.
“We obey traffic laws” When was the last time you saw a bicyclist stop for a stop sign? Or even a red light? And “We need bicycle friendly infrastructure” well, how about we license bicycles and use the proceeds to build it, just like we did with automobiles?

I got hit by car and am paralyzed from the head on down. I can't move, can't breathe, and am laying here dead in a coffin for the past 40 years.
I tried cycling and I got a wake-up call when a car turned right into me, thankfully I was able to turn in the same direction as the car and missed a collision, but I got the common sense to stop cycling on the road. Highways are not the playground for the sport of cycling, it's just not.
I couldn’t ride a bike on a two lane road with no side walk. Just dumb really.
Enjoying life without risk …well. I think that's a tall order for people riding on small metal frames with two wheels where 18 wheelers roam. Should we just get rid of the trucks that deliver the bikes to the stores? Riding on highways is extremely dangerous and there should be care taken but the assumption that it was the driver's fault is a bit much. And truly unfair.

You have to expect at anytime riding a bike on the street with cars you can get mowed down shouldn't be a surprise. A car can get a blow out at anytime anything can happen just the way it is and the chance you take.

It’s tragic that these people died, but all I gotta say is… The government made sidewalks for a reason. If you’re going 15 mph in an area that has speed limits upwards of 40 mph, you’re putting yourself in unnecessary danger. Just use the sidewalk, if I could use sidewalks riding my bike when I was a kid, I’m sure some grown adults can do the same. This tragedy could’ve been avoided.

I think bikers need to ride opposite the traffic ,I remember when the law was made that cyclists need to abide same rules as motorists, I think about it every time I see one having to pass along the side of a narrow road, it’s just dangerous ! because a biker can lose traction so easy by hitting a pothole and uneven pavement, or even a stone but if you can at least see what’s coming at you, you can avoid a vehicle easier .
nobody want to see anybody get hurt much less killed . one thing i have seen bike riders do and i was not there so i don't what happened in this case . and that is that on most roads there are bike lanes and if the bike riders were inside there own bike lane and were hit its is sad but and here is were things can go wrong real fast a lot of times these bike riders like to ride two , three or more side by side way outside there own lane so if this is the case its still sad but they gave the bike riders a lane for there safety but if the ones hit were outside they must take most of the responsibility for it

We need better quality humans. I'm a cyclist. The amount of humans that mean absolutely nothing to anything in my life can not just go around. If a truck they have no choice. They mess with scooters at 35miles but not 18 wheelers cause humans are still cowards and animals not using their brain 🧠. It is so simple. Just go around. You don't have to impose your existence. It sucks cause these are miserable people some on meth xyz. Even the cops are assholes around me one time.

I rode with WMRC in the 80's. Phoenix area was the most dangerous place I have ever ridden in. I've been club riding in Eugene. OR for 16 years now and have had only a few close passes! Why are the drivers in some areas so insanely anti bike????and in some areas so sensible about sharing the road????

I rode a motorcycle for some years in my 50# and was told drivers would say they didn’t see the motorcycle when they hit and killed someone. MC riders have the advantages of speed and mobility but that doesn’t help when pull out in front of a moving bike, sideswipe a bike, and other such. When a bike goes down it is almost always the fault of some inattentive, uncaring car driver.
If you cannot do the speed limit get off the road. Bicycles don't belong on the road. Yet these dummies continue to go well under the speed limit and block the lane and refuse to form a single line on the edge of the lane so vehicles can pass THEM safely.
