The first in a series on Pier Fishing in UK.
This video covers an October daytime session fishing Clacton Pier, in Clacton-on-Sea, Tendring, Essex (UK). It was filmed on 23.10.22 and I’m accompanied by fellow Essex sea angler Alex. This is the first time I’ve fished the venue and the intention was to catch anything other than whiting and dogfish.

Great video sir, fond memories of fishing clacton pier a# a small boy with my Dad. Didn’t catch anything mind you 🤣🤣👍
always an easy watch, and you seem to find the fish, good angler.
Looking forward to a few pier vids , many thanks
I’m pleased my information was good I told you that you would catch a sole and flat fish and on the bait I gave you Jeremy Clacton is a great venue beach and pier hope to see you again sometime 🐳
I watched a vid by someone who lowered a go pro down Brighton pier and I was surprised to see schools of bass and Polack mid water between the stanchions not on the bottom that was crab and flattys .it was the summer as the water was quite clear .food for thought…
Very enjoyable video thanks 😊 I remember catching heaps of Whiting on the Suffolk beaches before we moved out to NZ. Just a thought with Soles in mind – the first two snoods of your boom rig would have been off the bottom if you're dropping it off the side – why not have a small ball weight at the top of the rig so all three hooks sit on the sea bed for the Sole?
Wow, its good to see you on Clacton pier. I remember seeing 20lb cod coming in there in the 60's and live in hope for their return. Great entertainment for us old timers, many thanks.
Another brilliant fishing video Mick..But the radio is extremely annoying or am I just a miserable old git 😀
Good session 👍
The Anyfish Anywhere Bass Pro 12’6” is a good pier rod, I love mine. They’ll do 6oz no problem, even more if needed, seeing as you aren’t doing a pendulum cast. My 14ft and 15ft rods are too big for pier fishing in my opinion, but the Bass Pro is perfect for it.
Well done Mick, brilliant info as always
Hi Michael, fished the pier the other night, caught lots of whiting, doggies & a small thornback. Mostly on squid & lug. Always seems to blow a gale that union flag on the shelter gets some stick. Nice to see you fishing somewhere that I fish.
Beaches at holland york rd to brighton rd
Fishing very well Last few weeks for codling
Hi mick you ok pal, i enjoyed the vid again cheers. Great advice n tips spot on. All the best from GRIMSBY.
Great watch Mick, I wish all beaches had those shelters ! Maybe worth putting a whiting livebait down the side for a bass ? Cheap carp rods make excellent pier rods, as long as you have a drop net.
Cracking video Rodders
Hiya buddy I fish clacton pier on a regular basis I'm more than welcome to go through everything about fishing the pier if you fancy meeting for a session
29:18. I didn't know you were/are a James Taylor fan. As a dwarf (think Warwick Davis), pier fishing is a blessing to me. Even though I'm competent beach caster and can throw as far as the big boys, sometimes the weather makes it hard for me to achieve distance. Being on the pier, I can just drop or pitch a rig in fishable water with less effort. During the summertime, piers become interesting. Lot of "one season wonders" (People who fish maybe once or twice of year with tackle that makes you wonder and makes you fear when they cast), incidents, and tourists who ask questions that never made sense. Thankfully in South Carolina, we don't have mackie bashers. Other than that, I do meet fellow keen anglers, offer advice to others who deserve it/ willing to heed it, gave out bait i don't need anymore, gave away fish, some people have even given me fish, and even won the ticket jackpot at the arcade when I gave up on the fish. My go to Pier rod of lately has been a "flattie rod" from the UK sourced by my local tackle importer.
Nice one mick have fished that spot many times always had fish never a codling. Whoops unicorn.welldone . It always rains as well.
Nice video, will you be doing Walton and Harwich piers?
Awesome upload 👍
Shakespeare agility bass 5 pc 2/4oz 11 ft = excellent peir rods easy to transport, inexpensive , and very capable will cast 5 oz at a push
Very productive session! Hope to get down myself one day.
Good morning, good to see you out and about , nice session and plenty of spices, well done and thank you..
Best regards 🎣🎣
Enjoyable watch as always Mick, would using a live bait rig out for the whiting be a tactic when you return for the cod?
