Have a 21 model 4×4 rst ,got an average of 23.6 mpg that's with winter warm-ups.
Wait the engine breakin the gas mileage gets better . The pistons and the walls are tight
The naturally aspirated V8 is way better. Lasts longer, more responsive and way better reliability. Dealing with exhaust issues with these diesels can also become a nightmare. The Turbos can also become problem.
You'll never get top economy driving west bounds your constantly driving into the wind and you have rolling grades all the way across, turn around and head east you'll see much better numbers
I-80 we call it the Highway graveyard in winter season! I trucked Nebraska to the east coast every week! And man let me tell you Ne and Iowa during storms it literally looks like a automotive graveyard it is crazy! Stay safe!
Not worth the def headache and all
How does your LZO Heat? I just got mine — Trade up from a 2021 first Gen 3.0 — I'm in Canada and it DOES NOT WARM UP like the first Gen 3.0 — I hit the command start and i came back to the truck and it wouldn't even clear the snow off the windshield it was
22C or 8 below F –but still — not sure what;s up. In your earlier video with the 3.0 Engineer he mentioned they simplified the cooling system … well so far I think it was a step backwards.Did you get stuck north of Potter? A lot people learned the hard way to not blindly trust google during this storm, hope you weren’t one of them.
I've had my GMC with the LM2 for a little over six months. My family did a 9400 mile road trip this August and we averaged 28.6 MPG over the entire trip. Now that it's winter in upstate NY, I've seen a drop in fuel economy, but still staying above 20 mpg around town. I am really happy with this truck for all the reasons you stated in this video.
Made the drive from Dallas to Minneapolis and back, from De Moines north was a complete mess.
With the difference in fuel price gas vs. diesel, it needs to get quite a bit better mpg to brake even.
Well said this truck it’s not built for towing it’s for fuel economy totally agree with you on that .. I’ve pulled a 30 ft camper and trailers with it does pull no doubt about it and I do prefer 2500 or 3500 for towing it does make lot of difference I’ve pulled camper with both 1500 and 2500 is the one to do the job..
Uses alot more DEF than the LM2 thats forsure. I'm at over 3500miles on my 2022 GMC and only down one bar of def fluid.
Really enjoy and appreciate your 3.0 Diesel investment. Now, try to stop saying "gas tank" and gas pump etc. Try "fuel tank" and fuel consumption. It just bugs me the number of YouTuber that say gas pedal etc. when they are driving a diesel. Editorial comment and end of rant. Thank you for your content.
Getting read to take mine from NC to NM while towing a small trailer, I should get in the high teens until I start climbing in west TX.
Put on tonneau cover and you will get additional 1-2 mpg improvement on the truck.
Yeah let's put a belt on the back of the engine that needs to be serviced, smooth move gm. Sounds a bit louder then all the bigger heavy duty diesels like the 6.7 powerstroke and such.
Is GM gonna put this new LZO diesel motor in Tahoe/Yukon too???
I assume you traded the 22 Tundra in for this truck?
Great review! Do you have to let a diesel engine warm up for a while before taking off?
I like your new Silverado High Country, why did you not get the technology package, you stated on Tundra not optioned enough. To be more complete you are missing a big option in my book. I say this as my 2019 Sierra Denali and now my 2022 Sierra Denali Carbon Pro with Technology packages are a great option at this level of truck. I say this as I drive with my HUD 90% of the time and the camera for the rear view mirror takes away most of the blind spots and is very nice at night. I also got a 4×4 and is good for light off road which fits my needs. I like your channel as you do get into many new vehicles. I almost did Ram this time, but I am a GM Owner for last 30 years in trucks.
Appreciate your work. I have a question for you. Answer honestly
How comfortable of a ride is ?
Is it more comfortable than your new Tundra ??
Imagine when they make a tune without egr and def,way more mileage and hp
The diesel still has much more complex emissions and exhaust after treatment systems than a simple gas engine. Also, $5/gal cost vs $3 or less for gas in most of the country. It has to save a LOT of fuel to make up that cost deficit plus the extra $1k up charge.
All that said, it’s a very intriguing engine.
My concern is that the EPA is gonna put the kibosh on passenger diesels which will make keeping the infrastructure in place impossible. Sooner than later.
Excellent price for diesel fuel! Excellent mpg!
One think to keep in mind is the winter blend diesel will yield lower mpg. Mine drops 2-4 mpg in the winter.
I think the price per mile is a great metric! So important when comparing gas and diesel or even gas vehicles that require premium vs regular. And so important to keep in mind local prices since they vary so much across the country. I’m in MA and diesel is regularly $1 to $1.75 more. At those prices the gas truck might still be cheaper per mile, when not towing. Great video, keep it up.
Diesel in South Dakota is running $3.25 gallon. Regular gas with 10% ethanol $2.89. My F150 with 5.4 gets 13 mpg at 0 degrees F.
My 5.9 Cummins 99 Dodge got 24.5 mpg. My 03 Cummins got 22.5 mpg highway. Neither had converters back then. Both 100% stock. Wish they made those trucks again!
Sounds like a nice truck. I wouldn't buy another diesel only because of the fuel prices. $4.90 currently in Ohio. Gas $2.75. It's all about economics.
Hopefully you learned a valuable lesson. Stay off the freaking roads in those conditions! Your life is more valuable than a video!!!
How will this new truck be for deer hunting? I hope it comes with heated steering wheel, the hood is the correct height to shoot off of, and the tailgate lowers so you can pull the deer up all by yourself.
Tim, maybe you have an answer for this, the local dealer does not. LT and RST crew cab, not all of them have a center arm rest in the back seat.
I have the LM2 and I live in northern Nevada near Lake Tahoe and I experience the same conditions. Heavy snow and very strong winds and i average 26-27MPG. I drive up hill and some highway.
Absolutely love my ‘23 LTZ. There seems to be a sweet spot between 65-700mph for optimal fuel mileage. I’ve noticed a 2-3mpg difference from 70-75mph. Truck is so smooth and solid. Have zero complaints thus far!
In my opinion this is the best full size engine hands down for everyday driving and towing.
I just bought the new LZ0 duramax and the mileage increased on the 2 hr trip home from 20 to 25 mpg slowly as we went along
Do you know if the 3.0 Duramax is a better engine then the Ecodiesel?
It’s was that good and you just broke in the engine. I got 35mpg the other day and I just went over 7k miles. I’ve only filled the DEF once at 5k with only doing 1 tow. My LM2 has so much torque that I’ve spun my tires and pushed the pedal half way in Normal mode. Sport mode is even crazier.
The only complaints you will have is the cost of diesel maybe the infotainment freezing sometimes.
The belt with the LZ0 is to be inspected/changed at 200,000 miles now. It was 150,000 miles for the LM2.
Tim what do you think about the washer fluid button? I have a 22 silverado with the same button and I’ll be honest, I’d prefer if the put it on the end of that stalk. It’s just awkward reaching for that button. It’s not a huge deal but noticeable to me.
