Lake edge fly fishing where you get to stalk fish that cruise along the shoreline is one of my favourite ways to fish. I can happily spend hours crawling around on my hands and knees, trying to spot and intercept fish at your rod tip and get them eat a fly.
In this video I try to do just that and run you through my set up, approach and how I go about targeting fish in this manner.

Great to see you back out there!! You certainly made the most of it! Much better than our last afternoon there eh 😂😂. Fantastic browns. Big and so colorful.
HE DID IT! HE FINALLY STARTED FILMING IN 4K!!! LETS FUCKIN GO ToT!!! 😀 It looked so good man, good on ya bro. LETS GO!!! 🙂
Those are some nice fish bud! I have a pretty good big trout creek by me(you can see in my videos) but I’ve never seen anyone fish a lake for big trout like I would fish for large mouth bass… very interesting video bud and make my want to take a trip out your way even more so!
Beauty fish! Hope you get the boat sorted.
Great fish. Can feel your insecurity regarding the boat.Hopefully an easy fix.Take care and be lucky.
The stalking-type fishing was so much fun to watch, loved it!
Hello brother, could you teach me how to using that kind of your fishing rod?
Two cracking trout well done even with boat problems as the saying goes you need to get back in the saddle as quickly as possible after what happened and get out there
good to see you back in action. keep the faith mate iam sure the motor will be a simple fault. never forget the trip report even for local waters. tell a friend to check on you. catch up soon.
Always good to get back to the 'scene of the crime' , get the bad vibes out with a great trip. Do I hear Canada Geese? Great video, well done, Alex.
The old man on Pawn Stars said B.O.A.T. stands for Bust Out Another Thousand. I feel your pain there. You got some sweet redemption with those fish. That should ease the sting of the motor troubles a little. You know they’re good when you have to put the rod butt into your forearm!
Cool to see the beast back mate… Why not some acrylic or alloy deflectors over the rear corners kinda jet boat style? Surely wouldn't cost much if you shouted out to someone within one of the boat building capitals of the world.. If a late model boat of this size sinks 2 up on a lake it's clearly a design issue, failing complete/negligent improper use.
Great effort getting the boat back on the water. Great weedbeds with so much trout food. Real peacock and black soft hackle territory.
Is there a way to get the sides on the back of the boat up and avoid something similar happening again?
Would love to see some more of this Stillwater fishery……ever try hanging micro leeches or chironomids under the indicator would be cool to see a throat sample….awesome clip mate
I’ve heard so many stories about that lake. Is it still a good trophy water or are those days gone
That Brown is a BEAST!
Was thinking great to see you back up on the plane – and then, doh! The good news is you’ll have to go back and test her again – more of those beautiful browns to be had. Good change on the PLB too – makes sense.
Keep mentioning sun block Alex especially on lake/boat fishing reflection is bad. Great video beautiful big browns.
Also, I reckon @Stabicraft should sponsor you with a frontier 1450 cause that would be the right thing to do….
good to see the yeti survived the incident…see you in 2 weeks!!!
Oh mate, love a bit of Lake O. Gorgeous fish. And great to see Loopy back out there!
My favorite as well the O! BEST, time during my stay . Incredible fisherie, hands down. I say a guy pull in a 16lb bow. . My day was 4lb to 11lb fish browns and bows . Epic. Lots of wild pig in that area. If i go back im going to stay there for a bit . Your so lucky thats your backyard. Respect that fisherie.
Outstanding❤

Nice Job
Glad to see the tub back in the water man 🙌 awesome vid as always!
She is soooo thiccc and beautiful arent usually uttered in the same breath…😜
Redeemed indeed – that first brownie was stunning, great way to move on from that traumatic incident. Re the 16 soft hackle, that is essentially the legendary Gary Borger's water boatman pattern (designed having observed the real thing in motion, not making a fly that's an exact copy of a dead one). Water boatmen are a big food source for the cruisers in the shallows on that lake, particularly before damsel season. nailed it.
Wow. Gorgeous trout. Cool action. Don’t give up, I’m sure they’ll nail the issues and you’ll be hitting the fish hard over summer.
Awesome!
Reminds me of a day on Lake Shepherd, Lake Sumner National Park in Canterbury. Casting to monsters on a scorching summers day on the South Island. Everyone of them ignoring my offerings 😂😂 Great to exorcise the demons Alex 👌🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
My favorite lake. Spent many days camping and fishing over the years making lifetime memories. Good to see you back out there Alex and rising to the challenge of edge fishing …. A couple of stonkers!!! Will be there in a couple of weeks so loved this video just to raise the expectations.
Another great video Alex.
Back on the horse…and cracked the code!!! Redemption Awesomeness 😎!!!!!!!
Great video, I’ve been in that situation a few times, trying to work out what there eating. Gets the heart rate going
Don't know about Evinrude, it sounded more like John Deere! Beautiful location and man those Browns…just wow! Got to love a soft hackle ( North Country Spider here in the North of England)
That’s quite a claim, I could add a couple of highland lakes in Tassie that might rival this place
Ah the O, plenty of memories made there that's for sure. Great fish mate.
I like a bit of change from the river from time to time and the lake edges are great fun and challenging, 2 stunning fish . Hope you get the boat sorted .
Brilliant, Alex.
Nice bruv.. I got absolutely spanked there last week. Refusal after refusal and then when I did get the eat either busted or missed it. 🤦
Glad you got your boat back bro. That was some heavy shyte! Quite the hike back, maybe U wantto pick upafew bushcraft survival skills haha..nice redemption brown too!
Ohhhh what a lake!
Stay safe captain pugwash 🐟🎣😂😂
