I've never caught a sucker through the ice but we used to go late night spearing them in the spring up here in mid-Michigan with a three prong spear carrying an old Coleman kerosene lantern. Always a fun time and pretty tasty.

Red horse suckers are the bane of my existence were I am. They eat minnows and fight like giant walleyes and hit lures like giant small mouth. On the other hand they are the reason there's a big muskie population in my area.
