I hope this video is helpful for beginners getting out to chase these fish.
Lets change the culture around these fish in the Great Lakes and treat them with respect. They are twice the size of an average steelhead, and they stop feeding on entering the river…. so why do expect to go out and hook and land MORE kings than steelhead when they are in season? Experiencing a strike or bobber down from these giant fish is super rewarding. It may not come easy, but I hope to see more people give it a try!

Another great video Frey. Great to see you out fishing finally. We we're up fishing to, one day bites on every couple drifts, next could'nt buy a bite. Yesturday not a single bite. But we still seen them caught. I just don't see that way of fishing exciting. It's work to catch one of those fish, and they definantly beat us up this week. They we're hot. Keep it up love the fishing!!
When I first started fishing for salmon, I was on the first bend of a popular stream and wasn’t having any luck. Watching guys hook up drift after drift with flies was defeating but sticking with it eventually paid off. I’ve never went 3 for 45 like some but I’ve never been a snagger either lol

People need to get over what type of presentation you are using, and look at how you are using it… using Beads is NOT flossing if you DEAD DRIFT you float, that means not pulling against it as it floats down the river. if you dead drift, your rig underneath will either follow directly behind, or directly in front of you float, in line with it as it goes down the river, not off to one side or the other. granted there are some holes that have interesting hydronics happening underneath the surface. If you dead drift, that is the ONLY way you can prove these fish bite, and that you are not flossing.
Last year for Pink salmon i was dead drifting a pink fly on my center pin under a float and smashed pinks all season, it wasn't flossing the fish were biting. the only almon that dont really bite are sockeye salmon one they hit fresh water. they can and do bite bait in the shrimp variety but they do still bite.
Salmon Eat "Skein" or as we on the west coast call it "Roe" as an instinctual mechanism for their own offspring's preservation. They eat the eggs because, less salmon offspring from others means their own offspring have more food and a better chance for survival.
Fray you are doing good man. keep it up. rally with other local dudes that dead drift and start a movement!
Good on you Fray for trying to change the snagging culture of river salmon fishing. I live on the west coast and it's the same in California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska! I think it's mostly just greed and laziness that causes it. It's SO prevalent, especially where king salmon congregate that I don't know if using reason and trying to teach will be effective? Keep up the good fight!
I was taught to snag these big guys. Did way better when we snagged. But we did learn to fish the normal right way and still ended up with 6 or 7. Definitely happy to see that hook it the corner of the mouth.

You should come to Washington and fish with addicted fishing. It was cool when the came and fishes with you but it would be really cool if you went to there neck of the woods to.

Okay so fishing here is legit some of the best fishing period…the taboo of fishing here is 100 percent ppl wanting to keep it quiet because then everybody will do it… years ago everyone used leaded treble hooks so it blows my mind on the hate people give… thank you for challenging yourself to be above the crowd and put out good info.

I wish I could find peaceful and quiet spots like the ones you show. Unfortunately not the case in the areas I used to fish like the salmon river NY. Lots of snaggers and litter all over. Very discouraging.
