Mystery Chevy Truck, 1949 1-1/2 Ton G-506 Pickup?

I bought another vehicle that I don’t know much about except its really cool! It looks like a Chevrolet, I was told it was a GMC, and it shouldn’t have a pick-up bed on it. I’m going to have to learn more about this truck, but the key thing is that it is meant for dual wheels both front and back! Being a double dually is reason enough to get it up and running.

Deffo ww2 era , the title maybe comes from when it eas sold from military service ,41 to 44 truck with civilian title?

Is the " bent over lid " on the front what would have been a white painted disc for convoy driving in low or no light conditions?? Or a number disc?

Roberto Buenrostro

Well this project should be called
"Double duty" because…
"Sergeant rock" is already taken. 👨‍🔧

The Army Corp of Engineers used these trucks also, last one I saw was in the early 60's

Probably released from DRMO in 1949 so that's when the state title says it was born?

19:58 Bent tar can lid use; looks to me like a “ alert signage” for hazard materials decal base. The unit has been bent down. It should be more vertical.

This may be a Frankenstein truck. Notice a gas filler hole behind the passenger door. Maybe this is a civilian cab placed on a military truck. Many military vehicles have a extra plaque on the dash with the trucks info. I didn't see one here.

When I was a teenager with my 41 Power Wagon one of the guys I was running around with that also had a military truck had a restored 1.5 chevy with the short 6×6 style bed. I think his was a 41 but could be about any year till 45 and be almost identical. Definitely ww2 vintage and at least one comment says it's definitely a 41 you have. Probably the bomb truck like you found. The Dodge version had a similar smaller bomb truck body too. Cool truck and you can probably find the vin on the frame somewhere and maybe the data plates on the glove box or dash if your lucky and it will say exactly what it is. That's what's left of a blackout light for driving at night so nobody can see the light from above. The blackout cover over the small light is gone but you might be able to find a cover or whole light eventually if you care. I found a newer 24 volt one that bolted right onto the similar BO light cover and grill on my truck. Jeeps used them too but are almost always gone by now.

The round plate on the passenger side front probably at one time held a water cooler for the workers that were using that truck. When running duals on the front what you would find is a taller Tire on this inside and a slightly shorter one on the outside that way when you were on pavement the truck would drive normally but once you got into the dirt where you needed more traction then both tires would then dig . I hope this helps . You found a bucket list truck for me that's for sure! If you do decide to sell it how would I get in touch with you to talk to you about it? Thanks Bob from Virginia

Love it. My 6 ton runs duals on the front as well for a total of 12 tires! That's a lot of possible flats!

I've seen tanks like that with lower drain valves to fill other containers on job sites. Definitely an interesting old truck.

as a military vehicle this truck started out it's career without a title , then was sold to a civilian who had to title and plate it for use on public roads . It was titled as the year (1949 ) that the transaction took place , a common occurrence back in the old days . This is why you still find '32 Ford's for sale that are actually Model As , they were first sold sometime in 1932 and not the year they were built .

How's it going these days my friend? You definitely have interesting projects that's for sure. Maybe send a picture of that thing to backyard Alaskan he knows a hell of a lot about mining vehicles and military vehicles he could probably to tell you exactly what that thing is and what year it is possibly?? Anyhow keep up the great work man I love these videos.

That vehicle is probably used for road conditions or maybe even a snow plow up in the mountains somewhere in Arizona.. they put metal boxes in it to carry the salt and it had a snow plow on the front somewhere that explains the rust everywhere
