NEW BUILD! Ramp Truck Car Hauler EP 1 Halfass Kustoms Collab

On this episode of Make It Kustom, I introduce a new Build to the shop. The Make It Kustom Hauler is a 1971 Gmc retired firetruck ive been holding onto for a number of years. Elio and myself are prepping the 1 ton chassis for the cab swap.

Halfass Kustoms Collaboration
Brent is a talented Builder/YouTuber from Manitoba. I have him to thank for Make It Kustom’s first shout out on YouTube! I’ve been a fan of his channel for years. At the end of this month, Brent will and I will work together on this project side by side getting as much done as we can with the goal of running and driving this truck at the end of his stay.

Would be neat if those "GMC 9500 v-eight" side emblems got replaced with custom ones. Same style, just something more appropriate for the build.
As a side note, hard to believe that it's easier to make the cab match this much smaller frame that it would have been to use original frame and swap air brakes for hydraulic.

Albert Pierce

You should get a freightliner fl50 straight front axle. Put a soft single spring with air bag, straight cross over steering with a Sprint car style steering box. Just an idea or do something along those lines.

Kevin Hutton

Are you going to box in the frame to make the frame both stiffer and stronger ?

Richard Thomas

Get another frame maybe a school bus

BestKaylee

You do great work and I really enjoy your channel. I just want to mention that at 12 minutes it shows a gas leak base of the locking nut on your cutting tip. Keep up the good work.

paul hedman

I love it. This is going to be a hoot to follow.

👍👍

Just a crazy thought… is it possible to build a sub frame for just the cab, and add bags to it? To adjust parked cab height, cruise height and of course a lifted height for road clearance? 4 bags, some links of sorts to keep the cab from swaying and such.. would be sick. And maybe not to difficult for a bad a$$ fabricator like your self! Sick build and looking forward for the next webisode 🤘🏼

Reece Watson

Why not pick up the rear end with the fork lift??? I see you finally did… geezz…

Karl, I think you need to invest in a "come-along" for future similar situations lol

Andy Mì

Absolute great projekt👍👍👍
What if you remouve the frontdents with glue – pulling to keep the patina so nice like it is.

Jimmy, Making it work

This is gonna be so cool to watch, as well as inspiring for my own 62 C10 project.
Being a novice metal worker with mechanical experience proves to me how hard it is to do what you do. Although you make it look easy, very motivational.

TRAIN WRECK

Have you considered taking some width out of the cab. Seems like it would be a sin, but………

Eric Lester

Get a van steering box it come out off top

Looks sick.
Maybe just close the arch so it looks floaty and the wheel has space to move inside

Matt Nicholls

Good idea, poor execution, original chassis would have been much better to start with

Can u make fender for a 1970 datsun 510

John Love

Alan Hicks

Should of got yourself a 5500 dodge chassis

If you are set on keeping this frame and seeing as how you are making a wedge deck that will prolly end up having to beaver the rear section of the rails anyway, instead of stretching the chassis in the traditional spot why not do it in the rear section before the leaf hangers where it starts to kick up That way you wont need to notch it to get the axle to lay under the frame because you would have gained height when you add the extra length, also it will be way stronger keeping the full frame depth over the axle with long overhang. I'd also suggest widening the frame width as much as you can within reason so it doesn't end up feeling tippy up front. Once you ditch the leafs outside the frame and do a 4 link inside or under you can prolly push the frame out 5 inches each side before it will hit the wheels, then the front is just a longer drag link to make up the difference if you end up keeping the c30 ifs.

Andrew Cain

Awesome build this is going to be can’t wait for more videos just cut the cab in half and narrow it up

Tom Jones

Nice. The wheel arches have two radius. The outer radius that butts with the door and inner radius that frames the wheels. The middle of the two arches is about 8-10" but the front and back are only 3-4". If you made that panel maintain full 8-10" around the whole radius. The wheel opening would be more proportional without making the cab look funny.

Jerome Irving

If possible, make longer control arms and use front coil springs from a 1 ton dodge 4×4

Edward DeSantis

Frame n rear were better 2 ,
Plus every thing would have lined right up…I know,I know then it wouldn't b custom 😉

Edward DeSantis

That original engine would have walked all over that LS

Ronny Nord

50:10 were did the 1 tone chassie go?

Newriver

Do you photoshop?

TK Tinman

Maybe chop a foot out of the center and weld it back together. Narrow up the cab.

Chris Desrochers

That's gonna be a badass hauler.

69uremum

I would put it on a medium duty chassis, international makes med duty chassis with disc on all 4 corners with a dt466, that would be rad.

DMWI

Cool build but I wonder if your going to be doing reverse wheelies, every time you tap the brakes, when there is no car on the hauler?
