Jean, the father of the ancestor, was born in the late one-sixteenth century in the erstwhile french province of Normandy. It is said that he is a overcome shipwright in the avail of the Company of New France. He married twice. He married Miotte Lacombe before 1626 in Saint-Jacques-de-Dieppe, Normandy. From this first marriage : Étienne was born around 1626, He married Barbe Mauger, daughter of Jehan Mauger before December 31, 1626 in Saint-Jacques, Dieppe, Normandie ( Seine-Maritime ), France. He had four known children by his second wife ; André ( February 3, 1628 ), Catherine ( August 2, 1629 ), Jean ( 6 Feb 1633 ) and Laurent ( 1 October 1635 ). They are all baptized in the Church of St-Jacques in Dieppe. name variations : Dumetz, Dumets, Du Metz, Dumais, Dumoys, Dumairs, Du Met, Dumers, Dumais, Dumay and Demers. jean Dumets came to the colony and bought a house near the Rivière-aux-Chiens on the Beaupré coast April 16, 1645 before notary Guillaume Tronquet. He cancels the purchase of April 16 on October 8, 1646. Jean gets a concession from the Jesuits in the seigneurie of Sillery in 1647. jean acquires land of 4 arpents along the river in the seigneurie of Lauzon near the Chaudière River April 26, 1653 before notary of Romain Becquet. He died before 11 July 1699 in France. He is the godfather of Marie Dumets. Dumets Jean is listed as sponsor in 1621. jean Dumets and Adrien Dumoys are quoted in Saint-Jacques-de-Dieppe in 1626. list of know children :

Remarques: Son père se marie deux fois : m.1 avec Miotte Lacombe, dont un fils Étienne Dumets (pionnier) ; m. 2 avec Barbe Mauger (parents omis), née en 1599 à Rouen (St-Martin-du-Pont), mariée en premières noces à Rouen (St-Martin-du-Pont), le 29-07-1614 avec Pierre Mainfrey (parents omis), né à Rouen (St-Martin-du-Pont). Deux frères et une soeur sont baptisés à Dieppe (St-Jacques) : André, le 03-02-1628 ; Catherine, le 05-08-1629 et Laurent, le 01-10-1635. Ses grands-parents paternels sont Adrien Dumay et Catherine Pougnie, mariés à Étoutteville (Notre-Dame) 76253, le 12-08-1594. La sépulture d’une Barbe Mauger le 12-07-1699 à Dieppe (St-Jacques), âgée de 70 ans (décédée le 11), est inexacte, car elle serait née à la même époque que son fils André. Une plaque est apposée le 20-09-1998 dans l’église St-Jacques à Dieppe.[4]
