i just see the whole 9 bait thing as unnecessary, wont this just overcomplicate an already boring mechanic?
what is the advantages introduced by this update?
the only one i see is that fish seem to be even more retarded and strand themselves even more than before on rocks so i dont have to fish
so far it takes more space in the inventory, it now has more steps, its less accesible, it takes more gold, and i may spend 10m waiting for a fish only for the game to tell me "the fish doesent take the bait".
coincidentally, this made the update 20 items bigger with very little effort as 9 are re-colours of bait and 12 are models of fish, ngl, i kinda hate this change as i already disliked fishing before, now its even more dedicated for no reason

I got Tuna in a lake in the Meadows using regular bait
you can find fishing rods in ice caves too
So why do I need all the new baits and biome locations to fish when you can make the same recipes with any fish??
What is the goal of fishing? Except raw fish, what other stuff do you gain? For example, why spend a rare serpent trophy? To have the exact same thing that you'll get from other fish?
before the update, we had an island that had deep water immediately off shore. It was fantastic to catch tuna. Fish Tacos are fantastic food.
You can get pike using regular bait
This is an amzing little vid Kysen. Very handy and informative, got me started pretty good cause I couldn't find out how and where to start. I do think it's a bit of a waste to use a Serpent head for bait. They are pretty rare as a drop and sink in the water. I don't know if it's a bug but more then half the fish in the plains (grouper) I loose and not cause my stamina is gone. Kinda weird and annoying. Keep up the great vids, amazing stuff.
Just wanted to let you know, there are 12 types of fish, you are missing the Tetra fish, you fish them inside Frost Caves with lakes which are incredibly rare.
Edit: you can also catch Tuna and Pike with regular bait.
But what's the point of getting different types of fish? Their harder to catch as they use more stamina but yield the same amount of raw fish
FYI for new players: you do NOT have to hit E to catch the fish. If you have enough stamina you can just keep reeling it in and it will automatically catch the fish (displaying a notification of the type). He’s manually grabbing the fish because it uses a little less stamina and running out before you catch it will result in the fish getting away.

No. 1 Valheim fishing tip for beginners – fish from a boat! Have many more angles to fish from and a bit of depth is means more fish can spawn! Happy fishing 🙂
the devs told me on Discord that the cave fishing atm is 1/400 chance, which personally is ridiculous. I actually loaded an old world and fresh one on beta testing. spent 3 days searching only caves, well over 100 and not one lol… so little burnt out on looking for that fish.. however the fishing is definitely a cool mini game if not a full fledged game on its own..
so mistlands is live now and one change you will notice immediately is that fish now jump out of the water, many end up on shore, so if you are starting a new world and dont have the $ or cant find the trainer you can pickup fish just by walking the shoreline
I feel like some of these recipes are WAY too restrictive and need to be changed. Abomination trophies and serpent trophies are too inhibitive and ruin the progression.
Something it seemed like you missed was that high quality fish are actually bigger in appearance in the water giving you a clue where to cast for better chance to snag one.
I know this is a fish video but…. I did some experiments with chickens/hens and 2 star chickens/hens are coded in the game. They are spawnable via devcommands but I'm unsure if we can develop them naturally. Also unsure if this affects egg production. Something to look into. Fun fact the 2 star hens are physically smaller than the natural counterparts.
