11 Days Solo Camping in the Yukon Wilderness – E.3 – a Moose Visits Camp, Solo Rapids & Portage All Alone in the Wild:
In this episode, I wake up to driving rain and hear a large animal outside my tent. I later discover that it was Bull Moose and that I’d captured it on my trail cam! I soon discover that my camping stove is broken and have to collect firewood and light a fire in wet conditions to boil water over the fire for breakfast. I then share some of what my float plane pilot told me about the Bonnet Plume River – that’s it’s exteramly remote and not traveled often, meaning I’m truly alone in the wilderness. After instant oats and camp coffee, I load the canoe and spend about an hour panning a creek for gold before pushing off. I then solo many technical whitewater rapids before I reach the head of a portage trail around a dangerous whitewater canyon that would be deadly to attempt running. Because water levels in the river were so high, I couldn’t run much of the canyon at all and had to portage to the very end. It was a long portage, and when I finished, it was 10pm! I was then faced with more rapids and didn’t find a place to camp until quite late. I found a caribou antler at camp and cut some firewood and got a fire going, I then rigged up a quick drying rack to dry out my sweater.

"Guaranteed death but I'm going go for it"🤣
Epic!
Thanks Jim for sharing your adventure with us.. so beautiful
I thankfully stumbled on your channel coming from Lost Lakes’ channel (thank you YouTube algorithm!). I’m so happy to find adventurers like yourself making these amazing videos and movies. Thanks for all your hard work!
Your cinematography are awesome an your no b.s. commentary make your channel one of the best on YouTube.
fairy-tale landscapes and "well produced" adventures AGAIN! – my deepest god-like thanksgiving, @Jim.
Another great episode mate 👍🐾🐺
Mindblowing Adventure ! Thanks for sharing! Many greetings from Germany
Always look forward to your excellent vids and learning from them to aid me in some of my own (smaller) adventures . Cheers
Nice vid.
Why no Jetboil?
Way easier and more reliable than a gas stove Imo
Cheers!
The seals on the stove are most probably leaking due to a rotted gasket. Easy to fix if you can get the part. Not so easy in your situation! I stick to using Trangia stoves with bioethanol now, with a folding twig stove for use when I'm in a suitable location.
Ride em Cowboy!! I wonder what the bear would think seeing you carry the canoe, what kind of monstrosity is this?
Pity about your little stove..
Doesn't the bears ever mess with your gear? I hope you're marking out the rapids setting out a new Jim Baird's rapids maps..👍
Imagine life in an Eddyless society.
What is life without adversity? You handle it well. Nice music choices too.
Awesome series. I love the way you edit your videos. Feels like an old school discovery channel special. Hope thats taken as a prop and not a slight! Thank you!
What is the paddle you're using?
Great to watch you doing this Jim.
Hope you were able to repair your Coleman stove in a following episode. I've left mine out in the rain overnight and it lights fine. I relieve fuel pressure by loosening then retightening the fuel fill cap, then set the stove upside down on a high spot of ground.
My favorite part of this video has to be your singing, cracks me up every time! Hopefully you got into some more fish but Torie’s Thanksgiving meal looked mighty tasty!!
42:14 Oh boy he's lost it….. again….
You know, things are escalating, I predict in the near future he's going to put on entire plays for us.
When yar gunna tackle the Nahanni …?
🤣 "float to the bottom"…another Jim-ism
Just wow! Every series you release is more epic than the one before. Thank you so much for taking us far beyond the bounds of modern civilization and out into the wild. Absolutely beautiful country full of risk and danger but it doesn’t stop you! It’s such a bonus you take the time to share it with us. Again THANK YOU!
Never in my wildest dreams I'd watch an outdoor adventure channel and encounter a reference to "Jet Boy Jet Girl". You fucking rule.
That is one awesome river! You were up for the challenge…and you had it all to yourself! WOW. 👍😎🇨🇦🛶🌊🏆
Another great episode, I find myself watching the surroundings more than watching you.. LOL
Loved it thanks for sharing
