Wild Camping Mournes | Ben Crom Reservoir

A 23km walk through the Mourne Mountains, starting at Silent Valley and taking in the tops of Moolieve, Wee Binnian and Slieve Binnian, before dropping down to Ben Crom Reservoir. A difficult walk along the bottom slopes of Ben Crom brought me to a new wild camp spot as darkness fell. A full 12 hours in the tent as rain and wind lashed outside and then awakening to a beautiful morning. A cool climb up along the waterfalls tumbling from Ben Crom and then to the summit of Slieve Bearnagh, followed by a long low level walk past Lough Shannagh and back to the Client Valley😊

What backpack would you recommend for this?

Great hike, great film!

Is there free parking at silent valley? I usually park in Donard car park but it’s a bit far for day hikes if I want to explore further afield

Fair play on the night hike 👊 nice vid ATB 👧&🐕

Beautifully made, loved the bit where you set the camera low across water filming you walking away

Absolutely class video, Gerry, you kept it so interesting from start to finish. You must love talking to yourself as you seem to laugh and smile so much. Very brave in the tent in that weather but otherwise you had super weather and visibility. It's tough hiking even on the paths in the mournes yet you seem to thrive off piste. Regards, Ashley

Just found you channel, so great!! I just finished watching "The Finest Coastal Walk in Donegal" I am curious would be willing to share the kind of equipment you carry on one of these 3 day trips or equipment tips for the kinds of treks you do. A video would be great, or list. thank you so much for sharing.
I have done a little bit of hiking but I seem be always uncomfortably backed and you seems to be at ease withy our pack and quite comfortable in evenings.

Hi Gerry, Another great video. Your overnight sounded pretty noisy with the wind and rain and you said you slept quite well. Looking at those Mourne walls make you wonder about the people who build them, long it took and if they travelled up and down each day to do the work? Loved that wallerfall.

my new fav channel, nice one………….

I always find the stone wall boundaries facisnating. How they built them perfectly straight whilst on the side of a mountain! Great video, glorious views and beautiful countryside. Thanks for taking us with you. xx

Amazing shots, filmed very well

CAVEHILL ROCK... WILDCAMPER

Smashin' walk you put in there Gerry! Crackin wee pitch you picked out and great to have missed the worst of the weather (and foxes!)… atb Sinco

Graeme McCullough

Was up on Corragh for a camp there on Thursday.. think I prefer the cooler nights. Lol at shouting when you get freaked out! I do that too 🤣🤣 glad I'm not the only one.
Another great video. May have to try that wee spot sometime. Looks amazing 👏🏼

Wow, the Mournes are looking good gerry. I gotta say I love them sheep trails – I agree they disappear and come back. The trick is to have your gaze ready to pick it up. Hey, good to hear you repair and use – it's a trusty tent mind you and keeps the foxes out. Well, a great adventure after gerry – a few water features and obstacles and you're away buzzing. Good going. Have a great week ahead. Mark

Lovely video really enjoyed this, new fan@stay safe debs x

Absolutely brilliant video. The shots you get are fantastic. It looks like a stunning area to spend a night. It was really nice to see you talking a bit more in this one and showing some of your gear up close a bit more. I'm happy the fox left you alone but I did get a laugh when you were talking about them 😄 All the best Gerry, your channel is one of my favourites and you do an excellent job on every video. Have a good weekend 👍

Hi Gerry, that’s the first video of yours I have seen thanks to Colin at Frozen Mist giving your channel a shout out! Really enjoyed it, the footage is stunning especially in 4k, absolutely stunning. I got hit by the foxes myself a couple of months back when camping down at the col between Binnian and Lamagan. Got woke in the middle of the night to the wee blighter knocking over my pots and steeling a bag of food! Thanks for sharing your trip Gerry, you have another fan now!

Great video Gerry really enjoyed the views it's a very special place. Hope to do the same in the not do distant future. Good thing you brought the tent, you are very inspiring it was a very tough hike.

SoleTrail

Being attacked by Foxes Gerry 🤣 good call with tent. Your some man for the bivy. Haven't tried it yet but will do in the future. What tent is that? Had a tent fault on a recent trip. Have upgraded. Great video and well done. Love the channel.

specimanYak

Wonderful as always Gerry, that was an amazing hike especially from the reservoir all the way up to Bearnagh! There's a sheep-trail on the other side of the reservoir leading to Binnian I've saw a few runners on which seems a bit easier. Wild weather but worth it for the morning! Great video!

We know Ben Crom well Gerry. I heard a raven in the background there.
Beautiful spot especially in the morning light. Mind how you go Gerry!

Olive McGrath

Another brilliant video Gerry. Thank You. Do you use a phone app to plan/record your routes such as Alltrails?

Awesome views very beautiful

Fantastic, Gerry as always. Me and my daughter were in and around Silent Valley yesterday (4 Nov) up Sliabhnagore taking pics of Moolieve, Wee Binnian and Sliabh Binnian. Sliabh Binnian looks so intimidating from SV. But you have def motivated me to just do it and get up there. What's the worst that could happen? 👍

Mr creeper

The electric bray is very close to where you are there Gerry.

Andrew Wright

Great video, really enjoyed it with ur style of editing and content.

Jennifer Lupine

Great trip! Enjoyed the views of the valley and mountains. Lovely hillsides and water… greetings 🙂

Another great video Gerry, I've yet to visit the Mournes, I've only seen them from a distance and they look spectacular. Thanks for showing us around, all the best 👍
