One of these may have saved my life. I had an 88 Saab 900 Turbo that had many go fast modifications, it had no trouble with rolling highway pulls. After I had my ass handed to me by one of these and learning what it was, I just stopped engaging anyone's provocations.

I swear every manufacturer who makes small rear wheel drive trucks like this should make a performance version like this. It wouldn't take much, and the revenue from those looking for a cheap rear wheel drive hot rod would make it more than worth it.

Back in early-mid-2001 I saw a red one with a company logo get pulled over on 7th street in LA with guns drawn on the driver. From that moment on I knew who this truck's target demographic was.
It's not the Triton itself that's the problem, it's the Triton 5.4 3 valve specifically that has major issues. The 3 valve version of the 5.4 didn't debut until 2004 so the Lightning luckily missed that boat. The SVT Lightning utilized the same 5.4 2v for its entire production run.

You know, talking abou tthis truck, and the Viper Truck™ (and by some extension, the Silverado SS) – it makes me mad that the latter two trucks were in Midnight Club 3, but the Lightning was not.
I used to work at a body shop and my boss bought a 2003 Sonic Blue Lightning wrecked. The guy he bought it from held out for 6 months before finally caving and selling it. I told him to look up the paint code first, since they're apparently super rare in that color, but he didn't listen and painted it all black. He later came to regret it but still has it to this day. It's got a tune and some modified engine parts, last time it was on the dyno it had 463hp. It's getting used as a junkyard hauler and has 183,000+ miles on it. Truly a smiles per gallon vehicle, and although it feels sacrilegious to use it as a shop truck, it makes me happy to see them driven.
