Want to enjoy the benefits of driving a car, but don’t want to deal with the costs of owning one? Car sharing is an option.
An entry-level car owner in Singapore will spend around S$2000 a month on their car, but car sharing might be an option for those who choose not to pay that price. With car sharing companies popping up every year between the spell of 2016 to 2021, this mode of transport is fast gaining traction, but is it worth the time and the money?
Steven Chia takes to the road, in different car sharing vehicles, for a single week to find out what role car sharing plays in our future.

Don’t buy, liability
Also, you look good with your oldschool mercs Steven!
Just use public transport for daily commutes. Use the car for road trips/special occasions. I find that to be economical for me.
Leaked CONDOM is the BEST!!!
Getting to science park drive in the morning AYE oh better to drive my wife to work..and peak hour fetching her bk evening is booking car sharing worth it.But not not in daily basis.
Owning a car is freedom of movement. Its unfortunate that we'd have to resort to this at this age…
All these rental car drivers are terrible drivers
great video, but the sgblue car really scary, the most charging point returned is at the open space where down pour rain happens and user pluging in and out of the charging cable point at the times
for new car sharing users out there just standby a huge amount of cash if accident happens, this kind of car sharing company tends to scam new drivers and suck blood to make profits from this ppl
“I was braking but not in time” – full of excuses lol
Cars should be affordable like in other country, it’s our human rights for better transport.
If not ask the Ministers take public transport
Good luck singaporeans forever can only afford to take bus and mrt but can't afford to buy car
There are always people who dont know what to do with their money and there are people who dont have the money to do something. Internet is the best communication tool to bridge the gap.
Seems like everything can be shared nowadays…
Main issues Prohibiting Car Sharing
– Cleanliness
– Availability of car
– Accessibility of car
– Accident Excess Are Astronomical
– Car Badly Maintained
What's the diff between:
1) Walk 10mins to Rent Car VS.
2) Walk 10mins to MRT?
Same what.
Walk 10mins to rent car, drive, then still need find parking. End of day, u arrive maybe 10mins earlier than the guy who took MRT. Park already still need walk to destination. Might as well Grab. Sometimes no rental car available somemore.
– Not Faster, (than Grab)
– Not Convenient, (than Grab)
– Not Cheaper. (than MRT)
What is your selling point? I guess it's comfortable & private?
This are the companies hiking up the COE…
I hate getgo and other car sharing businesses, it’s not like their price are cheap.
Last time $50 or even $45 u can rent a vios, now that pricing can only rent a bike
I need a car to run my business, for small business like me , it affects my monthly cost alot…
How am i even suppose to get another car after this current coe ends
I don’t think Steve Chia is the targeted customer for car sharing platforms like Getgo or Tribecar. Wrong sample size – residential area (perhaps some landed , private property area) not close to any major parking areas. Very bias reporting. These car sharing services usually target folks who don’t own a car, but needed to drive on a certain day to run errands or just have a lot going on that day. Maybe CNA shd have gotten someone who don’t have a car, but could drive and use this services.
Very biased reporting indeed Steve. You tried all the car sharing platforms in a week. Ofc it is going to add up. Some are more expensive than the rest. If you need the car for the entire day to go to multiple locations, then Tribecar is your best friend. No you don't have to fill up petrol for the whole car, just enough not to hit the warning sign. Bluesg is the worse in terms of how they charge. It is only to replace taking grab which charges exorbitant prices.
You can always take a foldable bike and cycle to the location of the car and leave it inside. This is maximising and taking advantage of what you have. Not simply showing the viewers that car sharing do save BUT it saves a little bit and cause some doubts about it.
These car sharing companies exist for a profit. They can never be more economical for the same experience of owning a car. They are also hoarding COEs causing high car prices. End users just have to fork out more and more to use a car.
