The daunting target for Alpine’s bold 2023 F1 car

Alpine has set bold targets in both the development of its brand new 2023 Formula 1 car and what it wants to achieve this season.
The car is always the star at an F1 launch – or at least should be! – and Alpine had TWO on display on Thursday night in London.
Sadly these were a pair of show cars, one in the regular blue livery and one in the BWT pink that will be used for the first three races, BUT the Renault works team has delivered more accurate renders and produced some technical goodness in another way.
The highlight of the launch was the appearance of technical director Matt Harman, who talked through the key areas of change of the car and gave us plenty to go on.
Combine that with our own observations from the shots released of the car shaking down at Silverstone on Monday, and we have plenty to dig into.

The chick hosting the car launch has stems

Ken B.

As a Ferrari fan, don't care for this team, but it would be nice to see them challenge for a pole,or win here and there.

Ron Murray

It would be great if the Mid Grid cars moved up and challenged for a podium. Back in my day there was a time when more than 10 drivers won races in a single year.

Ngl I think f1 cars look sick in pink

praveen titus

Any idea who the presenter was at the launch ceremony?

Ivan Lukacevic

Unfortoninatly there is no EL GOAT here bet lets see this two youngsters hot heads!!

bazarovism

Even if they build a car as good as Redbull and Ferrari, they will not beat them due to not having a driver that can match Verstappen and Leclerc.

Polish Eddie

R.I.P WTF1. LONG LIVE P1!!!

MarS

Great car, bad drivers combo and individual average quality. Nationalism is a drag on performance

Corey McMillen

As an American F1 fan The Race is a truly reliable source for F1 news. The Race has also helped me understand the sport substantially more than I did just two years ago.

Stuart M

If Alpine does better than Alonso and Aston Martin…. Man O Man

Michel

Alpine make only a single niche sports car that even in France is extremely rare. And they have their own F1 team. It makes no sense to me.

Oliver Court

Are you guys running another league on Grid Rival this year??

SteveTazPhoto

Can someone explain to me in simple terms why there is a Maximum weight limit and what is the penalty for being too heavy?

alex beeco

I want another gasley win

Brant Gill

I find it difficult to believe any team is going to reveal their optimized aero design during the brand launch. These launches are just for colour scheme marketing, fan hype, and VIP hand-shaking.

Justin Kauffman

Pierre will cover Esteban by at least 15 points.

frannie swannie

can't for the pink

Willy Walklett

The pink panther 💗 ⌚️ out big teams

Will be interesting to see how Gasly does at Alpine. He expected RB to change the car to suit him, while he was a second off Max' pace lol
Hence, he was dropped from RB. He gets a lot of praise for his performance at AT but it was an easier car to drive, and against a rookie teammate. So he really needs to prove himself now. If he goes up against Ocon and cant beat him comfortably, then yeah, he's basically a midfield driver. Alonso had so many DNFs and was still close to Ocon so will look very bad for Piere if he cant beat him.

Ayrton

These cars have potential to be seriously fast this year and next.

Tim Querengesser

The contrast between pure new ideas here and at McLaren, where the technical director was MIA, are encouraging for Alpine (and discouraging for McLaren).

martiezboy

if alpine had been more reliable through the year, they would have been much closer to third and we may have had more competitive races and a tighter championship. hopefully this year will better!

ludwig 265

Williams?

Dean S

With Alonso's luck Alpine will win a championship this year.

Kaerim Arturo Cisneros Soto

No Dramas except for that passive aggressive comment of Gladly regarding Ocon height

Bruno Henrique

They're using ballast? This can get awesome real quick

Alec Brown

So, all but mercedes are following the same major cue points aerowise. I think the pack will close up, perhaps with some teams shuffling the order. But even with the improved financial playingfield, we are seeing 2 packs: the top 3, and all the rest. Until that's reduced from a mountain to a slope it's allways going to be like this

Daya Singh

Funny how most teams have meneged a huge wait reduction under theses cost cap rules when that generally means special super expensive materials ..

antoine BC

As a frenchman it saddens me to say that this is the ugliest car on the grid by a mile. I wish they would ditch the BWT sponsorship. Just like Ferrari represents Italy, Alpine represents France (especially with 2 french drivers) and this livery doesn't make us look good 🙁

huh

does the gp2 engine still used ?

Mario I/O

This Alpine is ugly af.

Paul white

What year is twenty twenty free exactly

Luka Vujeva

Looking at how this team has operated in the last years, you can only expect that dividends or, in this case, losses can be expected. I would predict that they will realistically drop to P5 or P6 rather than do any progress.

Peter Hallock

Best of luck ! Alpine/ Renault deserve it ! 🥰🙏

Dreamy

I have more faith in Alpine than Mclaren at this point 😂😢

VOLTA

Oh Alpina…How beautiful your dark blue metallic paint could have been. But the pink BWT logo is literally painful to watch. I can't get over it
