This principle pretty much applies to all cars. Take care of your car and it will take care of you. Some of them will be better than others but in the end this simple principle can be applied to any car.
In this video we look at 2 similar models. one of them have had a long history of care and it shows at 300,000 miles. One of them have had a questionable history and even with the current owner’s best care still had issues at an early age.
Folks maintenance is key at the early life of a car’s life. And that early care and dedication will pay off in the later years of the car’s ownership.
You don’t have to be a mechanic to take care of your car well. Simply understand the car’s maintenance and follow through with it. Taking care of a car doesn’t have to cost you a small fortune.

I love your videos. I learn Alot. Thank you
“May the Lord bless you and keep you” those words, right there were worth every second of viewing this video ❤ 🙏🏻❤️
Love ur channel. You couldn’t have disconnected the hoses and remove the throttle body? Come on man. Dont like short cuts.
I just want to shake your hand one time. Thanks for all of your videos. Hope to visit the shop when I’m in Chicago to see family.
Follow the TOYOTA maintenance period of 10k oil changes on my ‘12 4Runner…. I am embarrassed. I don’t have time to do the oil/filter changes myself…..so far so good…… has 108,000 miles ….. please ease my fear and tell me it’s ok. Or just up the oil/filter change intervals to 5k miles and I’ll be ok ?
2010 toyota camry check engine light and traction control light on .can you please help me with this issue ? Thank
I had warranty work done on my 2014 Toyota Tundra.
Because all the maintenance was done at the dealerships in my travels.
There was a record. one of the dealerships put the wrong transfer case fluid in it and it blew a seal.
It was all covered under warranty and I received a call from Toyota to make sure everything was taken care of.
Oil and filters changes are the life blood of any engine.
Question? how often should I adjust the valves on my 2000 tacoma 5 lug, 2.4Lt engine. I burned a valve 4 years and had the top end rebuild all Toyota parts. Don't want to go through that again.. thank you. Wish you were with us in California. Almost forgot. How much should I pay for the valve adjustment ?
I own 3 other Toyotas but I just sold my 2004 4runner with the 4.0 v6 .
Bought it with 180k miles on it .
Blown head gasket , 4×4 doesnt work , multiple frame rust / rot spots .
But I didnt lose any money on it
So I ll find a better one someday .
I HAVE 2 1999 4 RUNNER LIMITED. ONE WITH ONLY 34,627 ORIGINAL MILES AND THE OTHER WITH 783,527 ORIGINAL MILES. BOTH ARE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE ACTUALLY FIRST ONE IS IN EXCELLENT SHOWROOM SHAPE.
1999-2000 4 RUNNERS ARE THE BEST SUVS EVER MADE BY ANY SUV MAKER.
Please tell me, I have a 2013 lexus GS350 closing in on 115k miles, should I get the transmission fluid changed out? I constantly hear conflicting opinions. I follow regular oil change schedules and even do the oil change before reaching 5000 Miles but haven’t done transmission fluid change yet. Thank you!
04 corolla with 550000 on it still going strong greatest car ever made
Love this channel but this video is nonsense. Because what could the original owner have done wrong to cause such pitting on a cylinder wall? Nothing, I think. Even running low on oil would not have caused that. So this is a nonsesne video.
Couldn't agree more. I kept my honda civic 1996 for 8 years (2009-2017). Just maintained a timetable for it's oil change (filters etc) and general tuneups.
I sold it later on but even today the person who bought it off me has no complains with the engine & drivetrain whatsoever.
Good old mineral oil and basic service like plugs and filters can really make the engine outlast it's owners.
A bulletproof shield is only as effective as the person wearing it.
I bought a five year old Honda accord with the odometer dialled back and a failed oil ring that was causing valve failure.
It was a great car after spending another 4000 bucks including getting a new Japanese import used engine. But the sale of this vehicle to me was theft. These are extremely good cars notwithstanding.
Seems like older 4 runner has less tech and has a basic no nonsense engine. Newer 4 runner has more gizmos thats my 2 cents$
The best mechanic EVER.
I agree with you 100%
. I have had atleast two cars with over 250,000 miles.
Please help! What tires would you recommend for my 2018 Toyota Camry se 75560 miles and trying to follow your maintenance guides
My dad instilled those exact same words. I have a 2003 Sequoia with 245k, did timing twice, radiator, water pump, regular oil changes but can't remember changing trans. Checked receipts I only showed 1 @ 35k. Hubby claims he changed it when? I saw that it's better not to do it at this stage due to potential slippage. What's your opinion?
what does taking care of it mean though, what is basic maintenance? the only thing i can think of is changing the oil and tires when they need to be, but what else do i have to do? i literally have no idea?
I went to buy a 99 Camry for $1,000 in the very first thing I did after seeing a load of the guy was get down on my stomach and look underneath the car with a flashlight. The first glance alone was enough to convince me I was getting a good enough deal, because the guy claimed it was driven right here on the wet coast, and it barely had any rust, The interior needed a deep cleaning but other than that it wasn't better shape than most cars I'd ever sat in, in the engine was quiet too quiet know all the other things on my checklist came up optimistic. I'm sure I could buy five more just the same but not be in for any surprises, with a car as commonplace as a camry that fear has gone away really quickly.
Toyotas are reliable. They are not, however, indestructible.
Well … There is another factor here '01 cars were better built than '08 cars.
BTW 300K miles @ 20MPG (generous) and using $3.5/gal cost the owner $52.5K. That's incredible.
Take care of your ride
I just got my brand new hybrid highlander back from the dealer after getting a break in (1600 km's) oil change done. I drove home and checked the oil (after 5 minutes) The dealership over filled the oil. Should I take it back to them? How far over the line before it's a concern? I want to keep it as long as possible
Extending an automobile's life is much more than keeping up with regular maintenance. There is no better way to destroy a car (and lives) than to drive like the car ad juveniles…through murky swamps and creeks, rugged boulder filled terrain, 90 mph along some mist filled curvy road, burn-outs and smoking tires, braking into a slide, drifting, racing, and on and on. Hey, it sells cars, but appeals to the invincible, daredevil nature which influences dangerous driver habits that are destructive and have no place on the public roads.
enjoy listening to your videos
I would guess the newer vehicle with shot engine followed the overly long oil change intervals from the manual. Change your oil folks!!! Car care nut recommends 5k Mike's and I agree. I do to 4 to 5 k at the very longest
Does the 4.0 l engine ever need a valve adjustment? I got 240k on my 08 Runner and it still runs like a champ.
Thanks for another great video. I’d like to see an in depth video on how to take care of a car to see results like this. Dealerships are notorious for suggesting a lot of work that may not be necessary. That’s where they make a lot of their money. Clearly you are an honest guy working for a dealership, so I’d value your perspective on this.
I want to do the things I need to do to keep help my car go the distance and I’d like to avoid things that cost me money and aren’t really important.
Peace,
Isnt it true that the 2008 issue could’ve had nothing to do with how it was taken care of? Just bad luck worn out cylinder.
I had 2002 Toyota Celica GTS I bought brand new. It lasted me 195K miles, despite the fact I didn’t maintain the car properly!!! I was dumb and younger.
I know better now 😀
So was it cause they didn’t change the oil????
I think old cars are getting all the love after years of neglect. Buying a new car has become impossible financially and even worse there are none.
great information boss. god bless u
I should have you review my 1999 F-350 with the 7.3L. She’s my baby and is cared for as such. Only has 151K on the odometer too.
What church u go to
That is amazing! I decided on my 2006 Tacoma specifically because the stack of maintenance records that came with it. Bought from the original owner and it lived in Florida it’s whole life so no rust. It now has 210k miles and has given me zero issues. I change the oil every 3k miles. I have a family member that just blew the engine on their 2020 Nissan Versa from never changing the oil for 3 YEARS. Maintaining a car is way cheaper than buying a new one.
I have a 2013 Toyota Highlander 2.4 liter (4) cylinder and due to my health issues I have not been able to change the oil for approximately 5 to 6 months. I truly wanted your opinion if I should use any motor flush like Motor Medic or Liqui Moly before changing the synthetic motor oil and the OEM filter. Your opinion and expertise is truly valued by me and many others as I am a dedicated subscriber to your YouTube channel. Thank you for helping me and God Bless You and your Familia, Adios Amigo
That Michigan sticker on the newer 4 runner says a lot. Michigan roads are horrible and so is the salt. Neither of those things are helping…if it’s been in Michigan for long.
You are absolutely correct. I bought a 01 Camry XLE V6 in April of 22 with 103,000 original miles from the original owners son. Beautiful car. Not an inch of rust. No codes, took it for a test drive, checked underneath and it was clean. Especially being in NYC where our winters sometimes are rough. I bought it and maybe 3 days later check engine came on. Cat code and I thought no problem, I will fix it. Little did I know it would turn into a nightmare. Weeks later on cold starts she would shoot a abnormal amount of black smoke. Being I wanted to change the valve cover gaskets I went to a trusted shop I know and taking the valve covers off is where we found that while this car was taken care of on the outside, it wasn’t motor wise. So much sludge. So $3500 later she’s rebuilt and I started a maintenance record of what I’ve done and she runs like a clock. So absolutely take care of your car and it will take care of you. Be very careful when buying a used vehicle.
