Why Ferrari's New Car Has a 'Dimple' #Shorts

Ferrari’s SF-23 machine launched to widespread acclaim on Valentine’s Day, but one feature we didn’t spot was the appearance of a ‘dimple’ on the nose, which presented itself during high speed! It’s caused by a thinner piece of carbon fibre covering a gap in the crash structure, which flexes under aero load.

That and the fact it's now creating that tiny little bit of extra downforce

JAYsus that section is like carbon tissue lol

No spoilers… We all will watching drive to survive next year.

Troy Sloan

More down force. Might banned though. As soon as toto doesn't win first round

Tomisgoinginsane

Automatic F duct 😉

lil Sebastian

Movable aero device… banned!

liveforever

Surely that will affect the aero

Ricardo Romano

It sales weight but increases drag tf

Everyone always asks how fast is the Ferrari but no one asks how the Ferrari is doing

dementiagamig992

i don't think that's on purpose lol

jesuswouldkillhimself

It adds downforce

Every time that happens it squirts water into the driver's helmet, filling full of water.

Nonya

No coconut water in that drink bladder

Wait, so teams can manage to pass the crash tests while having what is apparently carbon fiber sheet (i.e. no resin to make it hard) covering the crash structure, like a WWI plane using canvas to cover the spars that form the wings? I think teams are going to protest on the grounds that it’s a movable aerodynamic device (albeit a minimally effective one). It’s like when they banned floors with golf ball style dimples. They made floors slippery because instead of having friction being produced by the floor material moving through the air, you’d have air moving over air. Basically frictionless. When that dimple forms, it traps a bit of high pressure air, and as the nose moves through the air, the same thing happens…air flowing against air.

Movable aero ?

I see the Sky team is testing out the official F1 ophthalmoscope for this season

They forgot to put a brace in = no story here.

It’s for storing the pasta sauce

honda4life

Could that give you more downforce?

John Simon Wijaya

the mindblowing things are.. that dimple is legal 🌚

ferrari master 🅱️lan: active aero

superfinal

Dimple just like whenever Charles's smiles

Viv

Could they have made it anty blurrier

Jack Flash

To deflect under speed and reform when slowing.. it's intentional.
More downforce?
