Say hello to the all-new Peugeot 408!
We’ve got our hands on Peugeot’s all-new half hatchback, half SUV, and we’re about to see if it can stand out in this oh-so-crowded car market.
For starters, the 408 is clearly a looker. With loads of creases and sharp angular taillights, we’re getting some serious Urus vibes from the rear! The good looks continue up front too, with a cool grille design and Peugeot’s instantly recognisable fang daytime running lights.
What’s more, the good looks continue once you step inside the cabin. There’s a cool dash design up top, and the seats aren’t only comfortable, but also come in an Alcantara-like material. The infotainment system is a real winner, too, with both the central screen and digital dials being highly customisable.
It’s easy to choose an engine, as there are only three to choose from. The entry-level comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, and then there are two plug-in hybrids, with the range-topper being a 1.6-litre turbo petrol coupled with an electric motor which can deliver 225hp. It can also drive for up to 40 miles on electric power alone.
All sounds pretty positive, right? Well, there’s one key sticking point… The price! The 408 starts at around £31,000, and the one we have our hands on here will set you back around £46,000! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Rate the looks & design of the new 408 out of 10!
It looks nice on the outside but FWD and 100 hp really kills it. The Kia EV6 looks similar but is actually very fast with AWD.
Prob just bcuz it’s diff, I am quite enthused by this type of steering wheel/steering wheel shape.
It looks great, all of the peugeot's,the problem is their steering and suspension, the balance and the way it drives.
It is not even close to vw,for example in a blind test i will not understand which car is audi, merc, bmw or vw,but i would spot the peugeot and differ it from the rest almost in 5 seconds, and that is why it's design is premium, but the car is not.
Overdesigned and underwhelming
revenge !!
…..and it's got a 1.6l 4cyl…. YAWN
Seems a little underpowered, but the interior looks good. Why are manufacturers ignoring ALL review comments and putting everything into the entertainment systems, instead of giving some buttons (climate being the main issue) ?
1.2L…. Ok… Another one then
I like blinkers in Peugeots!! There are so nice! ☺️🚗🇺🇦🇲🇫
I have Mazda CX-5 with big non-touch screen controlled via nob near armrest and almost crashed once I tried to find radio station. Imagine what could happen trying to set temperature with all these touchscreens. How they even pass all safety standards?
Toyota C-HR hybrid is much better
You liked REAL Bird SHIT off your finger!!! I know you're from Birmingham but WOW!!! OMFG.
1 out of 10! Overpriced motor industry smoke and mirrors.
It's not practical, it's got an Austin Allegro steering wheel – and you love it? WTH?!🤔💔😳🙄 Manufacturers have lost the plot, it's not an F1 car that doesn't have to do three point turns, a Peugeot road car does, so why not have a ROUND steering wheel – felt tip fairies are loosing the plot AND design engineers should be keeping them in check and ban these types of idiocy from the roads.
I like the look of modern Peugeots but their electrics – let's just say they're poor. And the flat screens and onboard computers etc? A distraction and ergonomic nightmare. Our local dealerships are dire too. And like the EV revolution? Emperor's new clothes! And the way the French government treat the UK? Ban their imports or tax them beyond reason – oh I forgot they own a third of our energy supply and Nissan. What has the UK become 🙄🙄💔
Looks like the design budget ran out when they got to the back bumper 😬
Bland and generic styling. Performance ain’t great either. Typical wind tunnel egg shaped driven design means boots space also compromised

A greet from Norway! We're so busy saving the world with our all electric cars so I haven't seen anything like this 408! Not in real life or even a commercial😟
But for me; wow! Cool car!! I love it!
Quite amusing review of it too!!🤣
Skoda superb 2.0tdi 190 blows this out the water
Thanks, nice video not car.
Love your vids. That was a classic CZ1 Synth though, not a home keyboard. Sorry – synth nerd alert
you need to get serious sometimes
The 208 and 2008 are really beautiful, but this one is not.
It's a good looking car, but as JD says below not so good in real life ?. Can you get it in full colour without the black arches ect. Quite a few negatives which could put me off. A shame Renault and Peugeot don't offer grey , red or cream interiors. I think the South Koreans will get my next car, maybe !! A
This has to be a strong contender for ugliest car of the year and we aren't even a full 2 months in, things are going to get worse aren't they 😔
Very nice
If you don’t like the 3D display you needn’t worry about it. It’s routinely deleted on 308 GTs anyway because of supply. Press cars seem to be immune. Odd that. 😮
GREAT REVIEW MY MAT ✌😎
more like x6
