Promoting and Developing Seafarers’ Welfare under the Maritime Labour Convention: A Research Agenda

Seafarers ‘ wellbeing is becoming a major issue for the external maritime community. This paper aims at examining the effect of benefit interventions onboard and ashore in the development and promotion of seafarers ’ wellbeing. For this, it analyses the theoretical context of wellbeing and its aspects concerning the transport industry. The paper is based on the results of a qualitative survey among ten-spot Greek-owned ship companies that manage a sum fleet of more than 430 vessels. Literature review and results of the field further existing cognition on provision of crew social welfare facilities and services, ampere well as on the function of diverse stakeholders involved in the provision of such facilities. Analysis besides focuses on the examination of stream conditions. The newspaper besides examines the way the Maritime Labor Convention standards are met by the industry stakeholders, discusses possible gaps that need to be filled and proposes actions for policy makers. This article introduces the research agenda in the field of wellbeing and wellbeing in the ship industry. The salute analysis contributes to our understanding on gang social welfare and wellbeing and offers a basis of dialogue on the different areas they affect .
