Historic Drag Car Revealed After 50+ Years in Hiding

The artwork on this car, dated 1964 is a thing of beauty! This Anglia gasser is a piece of Georgia drag racing history, and I can’t wait to uncover some of its racing background. This car has been hidden away for decades, as it has been well over 50 years since it was last raced. This car ran in the top Gas Coupe and Sedan class, which was called A/Gas and I’m learning new details about it every day. It had a small block Chevrolet engine back in the 1960’s and now features a supercharged small block Chevy. It’s still rolling on the original Halibrand magnesium wheels, but the tires have been updated to modern standards. There are tons of original details still hanging in there, but the current owner plans to put this car back on the track, so he’s making a few changes.

This is yet another research project for the Hot Rod Hoarder, and I’ll be sure to report my findings in a future video. The hand lettering and artwork definitely gives us some clues, but we’re still digging for information, so stay tuned.

My girlfriend's older brother, when I was in high school in the Dallas Texas area had an Anglia like that. It was kind of a brown color. Had a blown Chrysler hemi. Crazy borderline uncontrollable! Fast! I don't think I ever saw it make a straight pass down the strip. Fun to watch!

I work in Gainesville! Sadly, no more tracks in this immediate area these days. The 3 closest tracks are all 2 hours away in each direction.

That's a very cool Anglia! Nice to see some of those classics are still out there being cared for!

If you send me a reply I might be able to put you on a couple more Sox & Martin cars that have been parked for 30+years

The Mad Stripper was very popular around Atlanta in the 1960's. Gainesville is just up the road from the ATL…

The rearend in the Anglia isn’t of Chevy vintage or Ford. I believe that it’s the stout Pontiac that was narrowed, Pontiac 1957 era vintage.
The transmixer is an M22 or BW T-10 because of the large output shaft like a Turbo 400 automatic, size of the slip yoke seal surface diameter.
I also saw angle plug iron heads that would’ve been from a hot 327 in the last generation of double humps if they are of Chevy vintage.
I love the gold leaf, the wheels, the car!

The”Mad Striper” was Jack Baldwin who lived in Stone Mountain Ga. He striped lots of cars and motorcycles including one of mine and several of my friends his artwork was great.

Stock frame!!? 40 years ago a mate built one with the stock frame and front axle .He also used the Stock steering box !!!. if you ever saw one of those tiny steering boxes you'd wonder if he had a death wish. The frames were barely adequate on stock Anglias. The brakes on the Front of your example are English Ford 100E prefect brakes ,which are the same as my mate used. Luckily he had a very narrowed Ford 9" diff with big brakes in the rear so he could at least slow down. 😁.
Here is the tune you should have used … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTZoJ01FpD8

Man that thing is awesome!!!

I wouldn’t run it with those wheels, magnesium becomes brittle with age.
