Hot Tent Winter Camping in Snow Storm | First Hot Tent Overnighter in Snow Storm

In this video we go on our first hot tent camping trip in a snow storm! I booked a campsite near our house so we could stay overnight in my Megahorn III hot tent outfitted with a Guide Gear camp stove. This is our first overnight campout in this hot tent. I have to say, hot tent winter camping in a blizzard is no joke. It is so much more difficult to camp in winter. Everything takes so much longer to do, and the cold sucks up your energy. That being said, I really enjoyed winter camping and plan to do it a ton more! In this video we cover:

0:00 Intro
0:47 Tent and Stove Set Up
1:51 Storm is A’Brewin
2:48 Inside the Tent
3:33 Processing Wood
3:53 Starting a Fire
4:15 Cooking a Survival Meal
5:29 Processing Wood with Silky Saw
6:39 Cooking a Survival Meal Continued
7:28 Moving into Hot Tent
9:59 Meals for Tonight
11:07 Cooking Meals
16:36 Time to Wind Down for the Evening
17:35 Good Morning! Impressions and Overall Thoughts on Equipment
21:57 How the Hot Tent Withstood a Snow Storm
23:54 Digging Ourselves Out
25:53 Breaking Down Camp

The hot tent was bombarded by blizzard that delivered 10 inches of heavy, wet snow. There was already about 12 inches of snow on the ground at the time and the temperatures during filming varied from 25-31 degrees Fahrenheit. Why winter camping in a hot tent? Because I need an outdoor activity, so I do not go crazy lol. I love camping in warmer months, so I wanted to try out hot tent camping in a snow storm. Puppers TV

Scott Anderson

Scott Anderson

you should get a Russian bear tent its the best hot tent in the world and you can also get them on Amazon

Jonathan San Pedro

Let's make it 800… Cheers!

Lone Crow Adventures

Get the Luxe Hercules! We use it with two 30 inch mats. Stack them during the day with two chairs, fold up chairs and lay out the huge mats. We can also fit two tables and a little plastic 5 drawer chest that I keep all my kitchen stuff in. I have some winter camping videos on my channel if you want to check it out.

Don't understand why you people don't lay down a tarp instead of sleeping on the snow!!

Republican TV

You are the best !!!

FromBeyond99

Help me understand why the tent has no floor?

Dragon Kxk

"Too much bacon grease"…. We ain't from the same hood lady.

I like the design of that tent for shedding snow/rain, but there is zero insulation. It needs a liner or a tarp to make an air gap. Still you survived. 🙂

I have the same tent and use the Winnerwell Nomad medium stove. Your are right about the inner size, can be cramped, though you had an amazing amount of gear! I use mine on my own, with ample room for a chair. You could try stacking the bedding to one side and use folding chairs! Good luck with your adventures

Nice video, and it looked fun. I have been hot renting for years, and you are tight about being able to stand up in your megahorn. They do make a larger version. I have modified a number of tents to use for hot tenting. A 10×10 or 10×12 cabin tent works great. But you would need to put a stove jack in it. The main drawback to a tent like that is it will not carry a snow load. You would have to buy a 4 season tent for that. Luxe makes one with a stove jack in it but I don't know it's size or cost. Most use a tipi because its shape enables it to shed snow and stand up to high winds. I also like mine for those reasons. However like you I wish you could stand up in it better. For me I'm wiping to put up with that because of its strength and its looks.
But that is a decision only you can make. If you are careful to keep the snow off the Coleman 10 x 10 or 12 insta cabin tent is a fantastic set up. But you would have to put a stove jack in it. It has no mesh unless you put the windows down. Don't know if this helps but it's nice to see you having fun in the snow.

Hahaha.
"Are you hungry?"
Answer: "I could eat"
That made me chuckle.

Great video guys. You are adventurous. Loved watching you dig your way to the car, in fast-mo.
