Mercedes Benz C200 Review – Here's how Mercedes got its Groove Back

The previous generation C Class left much to be desired, but this latest 2022 model is something special. Join Ciro De Siena as he explains why.

Looking for a used Mercedes for sale in South Africa? We have over 4300 to choose from!

It has been incredibly refreshing to experience the latest C-Class. While you might describe the exterior styling as evolutionary rather than revolutionary, the interior design, which you’ll spend more time staring at, is inspired.

The interior really does have a sense of occasion to it, and after a few days sampling the petrol-powered C200, our video journalist Ciro De Siena came away feeling that all of this models key rivals feel a bit less special by comparison.

Find out why by watching this lovely video that we’ve put together for you, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Proudly South African

I am glad that Merc is still making sedans and I suppose the R1M price tag is for those who appreciate what it has to offer. If I was in the market for a sedan I'd consider this model.

Get a Lexus in the same price range as this, and then you've got yourself a really really really nice car, with reliability and resale value included.

Are you guys gonna do a review of the new toyota hilux GR sport

Ryan Kleynhans

Have my W206 C200 for almost 2 months now and I am very happy. I don’t get the hype about the diesel honestly, I find the 220d very unrefined and as for fuel economy, with the price difference between diesel and petrol it’s a moot point really

Century city 🙏🏾🙂
Awesome review
I don’t know of many people who wouldn’t own a merc😁

Hello Ciro.

This is an incredible car, lovely stuff. We should also pay note to Cape Town in the background, my goodness, it never fails to impress.

Damn…for a moment I thought u were Frank, from American Pickers….😅

What happens if the German, American and Japanese brands decide that since our allegiance has shifted to Chinese manufacturers, they no longer need to be here? Do we honestly think these Korean and Chinese brands will have their assembly plants here? South Africans neh…..

Hi Ciro the C-class is an impressive car, but the prices are going through the roof in SA. The C200 petrol has 150kw and 300nm and you have quoted the C220d power and torque of 147kw/440nm. I have a E200 with 9G Tronic and the gearbox is superb. Very smooth to drive.

Not for me thanks! A million bucks for a C class?🤫 It looks too low for South African roads. And a fuel consumption worse than a SUV? When I drive around in town in my budget Suzuki Swift 1.2 AMT I also do not hear engine noise and I do not know what gear I am in. And I get a fuel consumption half of the Merc and the car costs a quarter of the Merc.

C200 starting price is R805k not R900k. That's 27k less than the 320i LCI which starts at R832k.

Even the C220d starts at 850k.

Not sure where Ciro got his figures from.

10.6l/100km is higher than my Disco 4 (9.3). I have heard Mercs are quite bad on fuel.

on small engines diesel is the way to go. petrol just doesn't have enough low end torque to be comfortable and a luxury car. that said the only bad quality on my 205 is the leather from the seats and sorry but altough the car looks great no V8 or even a 6 cilinder make it lose all it's prestige and that screen can be amazing but i want buttons! and on the first models many people have issues with the screen going black meaning you don't have airco, heating seats, nothing… i hope the upcoming CLE will have the V8 because i don't need a car the size of an E class

We can’t enjoy anything in this country fck, CClass and Wildtrak built here in SA but we pay inflated prices 🤬🤬🤬

Disappointed the parking feature wasn't displayed

I've owned one of these for the past 3 months and agree that it's a fantastic upgrade from the W205, however it has a array of tech issues such as front camera not working pulling into a parking, the main screen used to go blank once in a while, the stop/start function acted up for a week or so and then fixed itself somehow and once the car completely locked me out of it and refused to open citing a auxiliary battery failure, constant Android auto disconnections… these issues could probably be resolved with a software update but kind of disappointing these bugs weren't ironed out at factory – at least the ambient lighting is good

Great video, can we have a video about purchasing vs leasing in SA

Phiwa Nhlengethwa

I thought I was the only one who likes sedans. I was hoping that the latest offerings from the Germans would be more attainable due to reduced demand.

SDS

Had the privilege of driving in one over the weekend, courtesyof a friend who is a sales person at MB. Great looking car and impressive interior, however its been plagued by tech issues. But i suspect this will be the case for all car manufacturers turning their cars into Smartphones

1M for an entry-level model…ok!

Leo

I beg to differ on a number of points- I had the W205 and I now have the newest C220d and the quality of materials are about the same. The current model also has squeaky, plasticky parts and they have certainly cut more cost in the latest version compared to the previous model. The newest model is supposed to be slightly larger but in fact it feels more cramped, at lest from the driver’s seat. Also, the older W205 design objectively looks better. Current model looks bland and from the front you will struggle to different it from the A class. The worst part is the rear, the W205 lights looks far better in the day and the night time.
The colourful big screen and gauge cluster of the new model does look more fancy than the W205 but the touch screen and touch sensitive buttons on the steering has been very frustrating to use at times.
The driving dynamics of the new C class is better than the previous generation and is a little more comfortable.
The sad thing is that the competition is not much better, the 3 series is plain ugly but drives better and the A4 has a better screwed together interior but sadly the interior so so boooooring!

We rented a 200 wagon in Sicily ,
Then our maps got us lost in the hills quite off road .. we run into herds of sheep & their wolf like guard dogs..
Thankfully the Mercedes’ held up until we were able to find our way out of there .. good times 😊

Let's mix things up a little…I'd like to see a Lexus LC being reviewed….just a step up from Mercedes, BMW and Audi.

Drops mike…
