Red Bull's aggressive changes to the car F1 rivals have tried to copy

The most eagerly-anticipated Formula 1 car of 2023, the Red Bull RB19, finally broke cover on the first day of pre-season testing.
And although the concept is familiar given it’s an evolution of last year’s all-conquering Red Bull RB19, there’s a vast number of detail changes as the team has found ways to squeeze more performance out of the car.
In testing last year, Red Bull caught the eye by introducing an aggressive sidepod evolution on the final day of pre-season running. This year, it’s once again the sidepods that first grab the attention not through a major overhaul, but by setting new standards for how extreme they are.

If they can add ballast to the car it will benefit Perez more, as Max will just do Max things, but Checo will be able to push the weight forward to give him his understeer preference, which could give Max a bit of a challenge this year.

I don't understand. When your under the minimal weigth limit, thats not good right? Thats not legal..

Most teams are focusing on managing the body downforce with the ground effects. Which looks like a quick win. Mercedes has chosen to focus on the ground effects because of the rules focusing on ground effects. Ground effects relies a lot on how the suspension can control it. Mercedes switched to a different suspension setup this year. Will see how that pays off. Ferrari & Mercedes will be the new battle this year.

Scott Hawkins

There going to crush everyone

The Rabbit Hole

Let's also not forget that Max has one more championship of experience under his belt than he did this time last year and proved he could still win, even from mid-field on many occasions with brilliant drives like the one at Spa. 2023 will be a 'Best of the Rest' as far as the driver's championship goes and Sergio Perez will adapt or perish by the end of the season. 😉

They just moved a bit in Ferraris direction with the sidepot

AttilatheThrilla

Mercedes soon to cry about the double under floor once they start getting their asses kicked

Zvonimir Ercegovac

A video which is not a clickbait. Thank you!

give me a break

Having a car underweight will help Perez by simply moving the weight backwards for instance.

BK98

I have a feeling this car will even be more dominant then the W11 back then, RB18 was already amazing, and this looks like the perfection of there philosophy.

Martin Pospisil

Its hilarious how everyone copied Red Bull. But I think its great If it makes the races more close.

I think it’s safe to say that the cost cap breach has no real consequence. Would be almost silly for remaining teams to follow the rules this year

I dream of a next "Nico Roseberg who beat Hamilton in the same machinery" but with Checo and then he finally retires. Man that would be awesome

Game of adjustments

Robert Mclaren

Shhhh, nothing to see hear! Move along!

Martin MacPhee

Check out the bulbous prow at the very front of the underfloor. Looks like the front of the hull of a Supertanker. In that application is greatly reduces drag, so it might be a useful modification.

waheeb chaugule

Why is it called minimum weight when all teams have to be below it? shouldn't it be called maximum weight? or am I reading it wrong?

ian3415

You could leave the comparisons on screen for more than 1 second. Mess.

Running Squirrel

That is one extremely fast looking car. Thanks Adrian!

When you get a head start…

I’m no aerodynamicist but I think The Race is wrong here. The side pod design clearly show a nuanced evolution of the design, not simply some size savings.

If you look at the paint, you see that the air is being pulled into the middle of the sidepod where the indent is. This is because the indent creates suction and possibly extra air volume into the coke bottle.

It’s a similar idea as Ferrari used last year in its slide design which was used to create a lower pressure area and pull more air down into the coke bottle. Red Bull is already trying some of this on the top but now they seem to be using the same idea on the side of the sidepod. Which again, leads me to believe they are fully understanding their design and will be deadly this year

What is RB up to? No good.

Brad Warren Garabiles

All I can say is, Newey is a genius

dkim0104

Why was it the most eagerly anticipated car?

Megawave79

no way they actually decided to show their car

Tigersmundo

NEVER bet against Adrian Newey!!! Another long year for the Nazi team ahead LMAO from AMERICA!

The chef Randy

Its sidr pods look like wings

Ashton

Just from day one testing looks about the same as last year's RB. Car looks like it handles so smooth. No bobbing up and down. Newey is the best at aero period. I just hope Checo can figure out how to drive the car at Max's level so we can potentially see the two fight it out on track. Multi 21 repeat 🤣

J Cool

wondering if that -10% of windtunnel in any way affects them this yr

8BitZ0mbie

Who am I, but I would like to see the relevant images for longer and see less b-roll. I can barely look at the image before it’s changed to another one. Just a suggestion

BBBenj

Not so much change as we'd expected…

Felix Rohr

Looks like they did present the RB19 at the launch afterall… Still pixel peeping to try and find differences…..

Mladen Radinovic

How many caterings did they have this year?

My Account

Merc and Ferrari…. 😭😭😭

Calvins weight loss Plan

I hope merc shits the bed again

Xperience Evolution

Can someone tell me how the dirty air is tested if every Team has different Aerodynamics.
Might be easier to drive behind a Mercedes than behind a Ferrari?
Wouldn't that be an adavantage even if it is just 1 or 2%

lost in a box

I like how this year's cars are starting to look more aggressive, I loved how the previous cars looked like fighter jets and was sad to see many cars last year looked like art pieces because they looked so smooth.

J T

Newey's gone too far before. Perhaps he'll have done so again.

Groagun

I wonder, now given that RB has tightened or made their side pods even smaller, was MB on to something? Is 0 side pods the ultimate answer and Mercedes just missed the mark?

D.B.

Plot twist… No changes work, rivals copy and RB starts race 1 with what they know 😂

martin arthur

Am still salty over Redbull and honda failing to Agree

TheFalcon

Something tells me this isn’t the final car

rolf ski

That's it, 2023 season is a wrap. We can all go home now

Jon Markus

Looks crazy! Innovative engineering work like this is so exciting that even I as a merc supporter hope this will perform!

tgasoul16

And also Siemens helps really a lot on the development of the Red Bull RB19.

Blamhokje

Amazing content this, so short after the 1st day. You people rock!

BenTrilla

Thanks for the video.

Patrick Roos

Most anticipated by soft drink fanboys perhaps….
