Pot noodles and pepperami sausages gently charred over the gas flame of the cooker…..
Aw Dan…..I was looking forward to the challenge of seeing you the pop up bag in its bag…….we have a pop up utility tent, practised half a dozen times in the house, no problem eventually….first time on a camp site ??? Like something from “carry on camping” 🤣
Haven't lived unless you stir in an oxo cube with that big soup
My first time wild camping on my own, Western Australia.
I set up my gear on a old pathway of some sort, the mosquitos and flies at dusk were friendly to say the least.
After a bit rough cooking and burnt fingers from not being prepared I set down for a nights sleep under a sky without stars.
It bucketed down and the tent leaked so I retreated to the car. After a night of heavy downpours and distant lightning I woke up to a beautiful sunrise and the wildlife was abundant. A quick ciggy on the car listening to birds etc and time to pack up.
Hmmmm where's the tent?
Where did that muddy River come from?
The old path I had set up camp on WAS a dry sandy riverbed.
Not any more it was a tent swallowing mass of water flowing.
Everything I left behind when retreating to the car was gone.
Lesson learnt.
Nice honest review Dan, totally agree with your thinking as you would probably upgrade the sleeping mat and pillow first and then when the weather gets colder you would upgrade the tent and sleeping bag (though a bag liner would make a difference for cooler nights). The stove and pots are fine for simple 'cooking'. I still want to see you trying to get the tent back into it's bag though, so was disappointed that you didn't film that 😂
How very dare you suggest we all start off with super noodles , ok ok my first week camping at edale way back in the past was a pasta fest with occasional bouts of porridge lol
If you wanna do budget camping don’t forget the secondhand market ! Some folks spend a fortune try it hate it and just want shot of there gear so there are super bargains to be had on marketplace eBay free ads gumtree etc 👍
Great video, never been wild camping but would like to try it that looks a really good place to give it a go, thanks for the ideas 👍🏻
I love camping but I did what you say here many years ago. I got an Argos camping bundle and it was brilliant. I have since upgraded…just a little at a time. Unfortunately health now stops adventures for me so enjoy it while you can
never been camping in my life, would love too.
That soup looks lovely, I have never tried that with my stove because I had assumed the soup would burn. Thanks👍 good video
Carried 2 liter thermos eggs and sausage with ice !=8)
Had a lot of chili with beans !=8)
Pack weight was 68 pounds !=8)
A regular pup tent wouldn't have enough room still the tent weighed 10 pounds !=8)
I started with a 2 man pup tent with 4 inch side walls !=8)
where abouts in yorkshire , im in the west yorkshire regine
So many people are adding suggestions for good cheap gear. I was thinking that it would be so interesting to take the most highly rated budget camping gear, and compare it with the high end stuff, and see if some of the highly rated budget gear out performs the high end stuff! Perhaps an idea for a future video 🙂
I watched the previous video when you bought the gear & then this one straight after……I was so looking forward to seeing you packing the tent away since you said you'd never used one yet! 😂
I got a cheap 3 man version from Decathlon 11yrs ago when he was 13 for us to use at Rock/Metal festivals as well as normal camping & it lasted 6-7yrs, no issues with it other than learning the knack of packing it away! 😂
Classic !
ya missed one baked beans and hotdog sausages in a tin lol
when i started camping my mum invented 'campers stew'. tin of big soup, tin of stew steak, tin of potatoes. job done. Great video Dan. good job
Well said mate
aldi usb lantern + mozzy zapper work brill
Amazing video as usual , I really enjoyed, keep these types of videos coming , your videos always make my day , thanks very much, I love the positive vibes, keep them coming !!
Good on yer for showing you can get started camping on a budget with basic gear. It’s a state of mind coz you can sleep in a bin bag and have fun as a kid. As an adult we expect a little more comfort but you can still enjoy the process.
Pasta n sauce all the way
Hello dear blogger, I am your fan, I am inspired by your videos, I have some new ideas to share and discuss, please answer me.
Although I've got a few more expensive tents, I did get one of the Aldi pop tents just to see what it was like. Gave it a trial pitch in my back garden and one of the poles snapped as it was popping up. Aldi did give me my money back, but there were no more in stock. I think I was probably unlucky.
Great video there are always plenty of bargains on ebay/market place. Like you said get out and enjoy the outdoors
2 person hammock in aldi £13 I have two and use them in the woods near red brook in the peak district
Yeah started off with noodles… that tent looks fantastic value .that lantern look really good
Por noodles? Of course.
Cheap gear can work, I've learned that if you spray the tent and rain fly down using 2 too 3 cans of silicone, it will not leak. (short of needle holes in the fabric) I own 1 relatively expensive tent, and a cheap 4 man tent (actually 2 comfortably with a little gear inside) and after treating it,it works as good a the more expensive tent
👍👍👍 A good, informative (and encouraging) share .. thanks 😊.
'Cheap Tent'. One can then upgrade to a 'cheap' tarp .. the combination thereof will see one through rougher weather conditions and give one more opportunity to further 'test the water'. As mentioned by yourself and in the comments, if not to one's liking .. then no real loss. Also, there are plenty kids out there (if not one's own) who would be more than happy 'backyard camping' with their mates. Keeps them 'off the streets', out of mischief .. mostly 😏 and close by if necessary.
I personally am in favour of a good quality tarp, supplemented by a 'will do' tent when necessary .. the tent bug net being the most important bit thereof.
Once again, thanks for sharing .. take care ..
I think your awesome…showing people that it can be done on a low budget thank you.😎
