With the composite strength 6/7 times stronger than steel, I believe once the crash tests are complete, this vehicle will be very high on the ratings systems for cars, and it does not have to meet those standards, as it is classified as an autocycle. Crumple zones, and the design will prove to be a very safe encasement, similar to a formula one racing car. Were you T-boned by a large pick-up truck, my guess is it would sort of bounce, and not crumble! In a few months the crash test will most likely have been completed, I hope you will revisit this subject later. The composite is designed with hexagonal fibers, (maybe hemp) compressed with resigns and Kevlar. Bullet proof vests are made of Kevlar, and the beehive weave helps distribute impacts. It never rusts either.
We drive less than 3,000 miles per year. Our parking spot is in the sun half the day. We currently drive one of the smallest ICE vehicles available. We have no need to to drive in snow or ice. This might be the perfect vehicle for us.
That car will be safe. Fist for all, it is not tiny. It is wider than F150 (wheel to wheel, so the cockpit has size of normal cars). Also it has egg shell shape cockpit which provide very secured space inside.
The body is a Formula-1 Composite Body and large enough cargo to sleep two people with the camper offering. Another cool thing it offers hub motors on all three wheels so it offers torque vectoring which should make it corner like a sports car.
There have been crash tests and also materials tests,, their panels and materials are StrongeR than panels on all other comparable vehicles……. They do need more crash test data released I agree and I hope they are working on it——- this vehicle is the future,,, eventually I’m sure they will expand their offerings to 4 wheel vehicles capable of hauling more gear and people—— lets hope they can get this one off the ground and running well first.
When you compress composites it returns to it's original shape after you remove the load. so if your in a roll over or collision. it will absorb the energy & pop back. In a roll over the standard is about 1.5 times the weight of the car. The Aptera is 6 times the vehicle weight for the roll over test.
What is the crumple zone on the aptera ? Think of it like a F1 cockpit. It absorbs the energy.
I can tell a bad design when I see 1, the protruding front wheels are prone to damages in minor crashes, and may result in undriveable and expensive repair.
There are a lot of red flag when ordering: "You order a vehicle that is not yet in production. Your ability to buy the vehicle is not guaranteed, and your place in the queue is not yet known. Your vehicle specifications can be modified any time after ordering" who in the wright mind place such of order?
What I really like about this car is they really got down to the science of areo dynamics and weight to really push the what cars are capable of. If more care manufacturer focused on those two subjects cars would be way more efficient
I would love the Aptera as my daily commuter (and drive my 2017 Corvette with a fun manual transmission on the weekends) .
I would NEVER buy a Tesla because I can't stand Elon Musk or Tesla owners (or BMW owners) 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds is quicker than my 2017 Corvette C7 at 3.7 seconds automatic or 3.8 seconds stickshift.
There are 18 wheelers on the road and…….there are motorcycles on the road, Smart cars, Polaris Slingshots, etc. This is classified as a motorcycle, but it has airbags, so comparing apples to apples, it probably will be the safest motorcycle on the road and for the same price as Harley Davidson's Livewire. I'll take one.
25 cubic feet of storage, more then most sedans! The material the vehicle is made of, is actually stronger then steel! You might want to do a little research before posting a video on a product you know little about!
Lew should have researched this better. The car is built like the cell of a formula one car. The crash testing is actually VERY impressive for a small car.
"Not enough room in the back"…..tell that to the two people that can sleep in the back. Maybe a little more research Jack, before you start flapping your lips.
On the contrary, its a very old experimental solar EV created at texas AM university just modernized for production. this design solar EV has been around since the early 90's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrQqCLRXl2w&ab_channel=JayLeno%27sGarage im always amazed how the young think this sorta stuff is new when its anything but. So much of todays seemingly new tech has been around for a long time, BUT like most things the cost of such things and the market for them was not proper for the time of their invention. Most of the time, the tech was very much around in the past but the cost was far too high for manufacturing on a consumer level. So the tech needed to both improve, manufacturing become less complicated and the price drop. As an example. LCD screens had been around for a long time. but they were expensive, VERY expensive back in the 80's not practicle for all their possible uses, the cost needed to comed down. as such the first LCD tvs came along, the first batch competing with plasma tv's in the end Lcds were much easire to manufacture and was more cost effective for consumer sales, as the prices dropped, and the quality improved, small lcd screens became a viable market, which lent itself to all sorts of tech that long waited for it to become viable. hend you got lcds screens first in car headrests and later car dashboards. and with the coming of the iphone a whole new level of quality. and the abundant of phones enabled inexpensive screens for VR. which again, was nothing new, but the cheaper and better tech took time to catch up with consumer level production. this also applys to the mobile processor. Now we have the Oculus Quest 2, which doesn't need a beefy separate computer, its an all in one unit. consider all the tech on i that also needed to come down in price . And you can get a unit, with an over 2k Lcd screen sensors and cameras all around controllers for $299. think about it. Think how much a Ps5 cost, its tech and is pricetag verses a self contained VR headset like the oculus quest and its $299 price. amazing. its not that suff wasnt created or possible back in the day, it just to too costly for mass consumer sales. think about cars and carbon fiber how expensive it was just a few decades past. and now its far cheaper.
Do you research the body for impact side and front is stronger than any car on the market now they built it structurally more sound than any car on the market now so why are you talking fragile didn’t do your homework
This is like the iPad of cars: The middle of Cars and Motorbikes. Awkward but convenient, perhaps? Im still not sure WHY, I would want it. Looks cool though.
This is not more dangerous than a motorcycle and people drive those all the time. If my choice affects only me I don't need other people deciding I need protection.
Elon was against motorcycles because they weren't enclosed.
REALLY not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just trying to give an important FYI.
supposedly because I've been going back and forth between buying this and the $25,000 Tesla that's coming out in 2024.
Because both have a starting price at about $25,000 or $26,000 and go 250 mi on a single charge (Tesla has an announced the range but knowing that they won't make a 230 mile range car but will make a 250 range, we know the minimum)
I really like the idea of being able to charge this never, but I might need to have more than two seats.
but I really want people to ask me about my car so I would want the weirdness because I am super weird.
And it can go 0 to 60 and 3.5 seconds.
But Tesla's autopilot accident avoidance system avoids five out of six accidents and it's incredibly awesome.
This comes out in 2021, so I can't get it immediately because I'm still saving but I keep going back and forth on which one I'm going to get. Because I am going to get one or the other.
Give up … Itsawsom

I’ve been watching videos on that thing and it’s crazy strong
I started a whole channel dedicated just to Aptera if anyone is interested.

why does he think it's so small? Two adults can literally lay down in the trunk, it's 9 feet across.
Lew you gotta do another video on this…the safety ratings on this thing are bonkers…
:). Is there a 4 wheel version?
I can tell a bad design when I see 1, the protruding front wheels are prone to damages in minor crashes, and may result in undriveable and expensive repair.

When something is sound to good to be true, it's all way is: 1000 miles range?
What I really like about this car is they really got down to the science of areo dynamics and weight to really push the what cars are capable of. If more care manufacturer focused on those two subjects cars would be way more efficient
No car is safe if an 18 wheeler crashes into it. Most pickup trucks either.
Crikey is this the level of debate?… Any chance of raising the bar?
mr. bean dumb car future version.

It is safer than motorcyclers, just saying.
Very weak arguments were raised against this vehicle. Seems to be paid by Tesla😂
Imagine calling the Aptera "tiny"
Lew should have researched this better. The car is built like the cell of a formula one car. The crash testing is actually VERY impressive for a small car.
It's great but yes it needs an electrical charging station as well if your not driving in the sun that much
I want somebody to do something like this as a kit car
Does it have heating and air conditioning.
"Not enough room in the back"…..tell that to the two people that can sleep in the back. Maybe a little more research Jack, before you start flapping your lips.
You’ll never need to charge it.. unless you live in the UK.
😂 that looks nothing like a bicycle

These comments are pretty atupid just look at the reveal video since they go over a bunch of these factorw they even say it drives on snow
Unbox Therapy?
Looks and sounds great until Bubba comes along in his monster truck and T-bones you.
Do you research the body for impact side and front is stronger than any car on the market now they built it structurally more sound than any car on the market now so why are you talking fragile didn’t do your homework
first thing i thought of too. Maybe innercity
Probably not ideal as a family vehicle hauling kids around but for a single person living in a city? Why the hell not
What happens if you get hit by another car?
*edit guess I'm not the only one who had that same thought*
The car had front and side airbags, j think it's pretty safe

They should hire mr. bean to advertise this!
This is not more dangerous than a motorcycle and people drive those all the time. If my choice affects only me I don't need other people deciding I need protection.
I feel like he is too confused to even comment right.. I guess maybe he is just so surprised 1000m per charge is.. too good to be true… so I get it.
It's actually big and supper safe.
Elon was against motorcycles because they weren't enclosed.
