Introducing the list of the 10 worst new car trends of 2022!
Sure, some can’t exactly be helped. For example, take a look at soft limiters. Loads of manufacturers are fitting these to newer cars due to emissions regulations. We’re not happy about it, but we can kind of understand where they’re coming from.
But then again, not all trends have to be adopted, yet we still see them continue to appear on new cars! For example, what’s with so many electric cars rolling up with front grilles? It’s not like they’ve got an engine that needs cooling!
These are just two of the trends we find most annoying in 2022. To find out what the others are, stick with Mat in this all-new video!

What do you think is the WORST car trend in 2022?
here i go ,im happy to drive my 55 year old car power nothing standard trans , its so fun to drive
To them.. more features more money
Porsche actually made a way around the soft limiter where you hold both shifter paddles while it’s in gear and you can rev freely
I understand it and all, but why use the Gemera in the thumbnail? Like, I know it is a PHEV, but it does not HAVE THAT MIRROR-
With you until the last two points, those don't seem right to me.
as you said
sideview mirrors are likes ears to cars
of course at the time were in, we have to be safe
so yeah, people put giant masks on their cars sometimes
"I'm a cyclist" Matt! How could you? 😫
Couldn't agree more about the capacitive touch buttons, did you hear that Ferrari?
I agree with most of those but car trunk button is must have on every car no matter suv or sedan or even better motion gesture!
Whinge Whinge Whinge Whinge
This is making me dread getting a new car once my 2002 chevy impala finally bites the dust…
PHEV: Best solution. Voltec was lightyears ahead of its competition and is exactly what we need. Not EV's.
All new cars are shite. My 2006 Focus ST will knack them all. 😁
Those new BMW Beaver tooth grills are dangerous, every time i see one i just crease up to the point of crying.
Soft limiters: Those can sometimes be disabled by disabling ESP/traction control in Sports Mode.
PHEVs: Totally agree, worst of all worlds, totally pointless.
"hurdur… just save the planet and stop the whining, sir" they say… have a nice winter!
Love how you criticize the features and then follow that immediately with “I can understand why they do it”
Confused much?
BIG thumbs up
Wow this is really stupid espacially the mirror monitors at the end, why would i want F…ing bright Monitors there..
Touch sensetive buttons honestly give me anxiety
Modern cars are imo, UGLY AF! And all the gadgets and shit, is just stupid. Give me back the golden era
Certainly agree on unnecessary electrics. Eg manual ratchet seat adjustments do everything electric ones do but ten times quicker. Ditto manually closed bootlids and tailgates. And electronic switching for HVAC etc? Nuh-uh. Just changing the a/c temp in a Prius can take your eyes off the road for 15 mins. And who on earth thought up those soft-touch electronic glove box latches on the Jag XF? They’d be utterly pointless if they worked. Which they often didn’t. I could grumble on for months.
There are some butt ugly new trucks out there. It's like they took a 58 Ford and tried to remake it as ugly as possible.
thank God for soft limiters.
I've seen cars with mirrors and built in camera and personally I thought having both is pretty cool. Just a camera? No thank you.
A agree with all
So, what if someone collides with the rear of the car?
Worst car trend since about the 1980s: most of the cars just look bland and generic. They really don't have any style or flair. OK, you get occasional ones like BMW's Cabriolet or the new Minis that evoke something of the old Minis or the PT Cruiser that has a "retro" vibe. But for the most part, every production car on the road looks pretty much the same.
I actually think that in order to be a car designer, you need to have your creativity and inventiveness surgically removed – unless you're already a genetic mutant with no innate sense of style.
For comparison, you can buy brand new Royal Enfield, BSA, Indian, Harley Davidson and even some of the more modern Japanese brand motorcycles that look like they rolled off the production line in the 1920s-1960s. They look stylish, cool. Even modern-styled motorcycles have some really cool looks – racers, street fighters, road-trails etc.
OK, I get it, motorcycles are for cool people and cars are for boring farts that will never be cool enough to ride a motorcycle, but surely – for the sake of making our roads significantly less ugly, can they at least make cars that are worth looking at?
Hybrids are totally pointless – it's what you buy if you want to pretend you're going electric but lack the commitment. Frankly you're better off with a full electric for the daily short commute and a crappy Suzuki Swift for that one time each year you need to go beyond the EV's range.
This why I like 70s and 80s cars, nice designs, no unnecessary things and they're designed to be driven, not to be looked at like a museum piece.
Oh my god, that electric BMW SUV looks HIDEOUS. I barfed in my mouth a little. Why do BMW make their new models so damn ugly?!
