Uncovering the Secret: Why Car Dealerships Don’t Show Prices!
Car Questions Answered
Hello and Welcome To Car Questions Answered!
In this video I tell you why dealerships don’t display their prices for you to see. I even call a few dealerships and ask them why they don’t show their prices on their vehicles.
My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what’s happening at the dealer auctions, and what it’s like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.
My wife and I own a used car dealership in NC. I’m not sharing my dealership name or location on YouTube, mainly for 2 reasons: 1. My sales staff is working to the max as it is and does not have the capacity to answer questions from people calling about YouTube. 2. I want to make sure I give the best and most honest advice I can on YouTube without coming across like I’m also trying to sell you a car.
Thanks for watching and please feel free to leave any comments you may have in the section below!

Another trick used on used car dealer lots is to take one of the nicest or most popular cars on their lot and instead of having the actual price on the front window, they have an ambiguous first digit, that looks like a “1” but is actually a “2.”
So you think this fully loaded Escalade is $19,999, but it’s actually $29,999.
Lets try a video with you standing still?? haha Good info though!
6:09 Amazingly enough, youtube's automatic captions were able to figure out "de-logicify" just fine 😂
Car dealers try to get the highest price possible for a car. Buyer should try to get the lowest. Don't take it personal on either side. Just say looks like we're not going to make a deal and move on.
I always look to see if the price and miles of the vehicle is displayed
If you ask me, I believe you sell more cars if the price On the windshield
I would never buy a car from a dealership that doesn't display the prices on the car. Never ever
Separately, send 2 different people the used car lot and see what price the dealer gives for the EXACT SAME VEHICLE. It would be interesting to see!
I just hope all the new car dealerships die and we just buy directly from the manufacturer. MF wants extra 4000 for stupid add-ons which make no sense.
When I bought my car back in 2012 the salesman actually had the nerve to ask me why the price someone else paid is relevant to the price I should get offered. I almost walked out at that point but I said – I want the best deal and if someone else got a better deal on the same car, I want to know why.
The only mainstream business where physical, non rare goods are sold like this. It is insulting.
My funny experience with bullshit like this .. I work in commercial banking and a few years ago some genius new division lead had an idea that we could implement "open" pricing. Rather than bringing out an official offer letter / term sheet to a prospective customer we were told to leave the interest rate section blank, with the idea that this was us showing our dedication to beat any competing bank's best rate.
To this day I still wish I was present for one of the early meetings this was tried with prospects, our guys were either met with confusion, or in a couple cases business owners said get the f out of my building why did you come here to waste my time.
This experiment lasted only a few months and that division lead is long gone.
Thanks for this! A friend recently was calling Toyota and expressed interest in a Rav 4. All he wanted to know was how much. No haggling… just what’s is cost. They would not tell him
It's 2023. Why are we still buying cars this way?
I ask before once why don't you put the year on the winshield along with the price.?
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Until I know what YOU paid for the car, the price on the car is meaningless. The difference between what YOU paid for the car and what I WANT to pay for the car is where the negotiation happens to reach a "fair" price. Consumers in this country are always screwed because businesses hide their mark-ups and profit margins. It's not really hard to get rich if you can successfully hide your profit margins. You want to be completely honest? Put the price YOU PAID for the car at auction on the car as well as your asking price. You could buy a car at auction for $2500K, sell it for $5K and that's a 50% markup. I see $5K and think it's a good price because it's low. A 25% markup would make the price $3750. So how about a video on why car dealers won't tell you what they paid for the car?
Props to you Brandon for bringing light to the car business and being an honest dealer. Try to make a long story short. From the early to mid 80's I worked for a wholesaler (funniest job I ever had) I moved to a different state and decided to try retailing used cars at a dealership. The worst job I ever had. The crap that went on was unbelievable. I felt sleezy and left after less than 2 months. There's a big difference in making the cars pretty to sell to retailers at auction and retailing them to customers.
This video sounds like car sales 101!! This is a hater video. Don't be a hater!!
Thank you again for your upfront honesty. This separates you from the others by miles. 🙂
Don’t put prices on window stickers because the market is so ever-changing window stickers can range from five to $17 apiece. If you constantly have changing prices you happen to change them you also risk damaging cars taking off window tint scratching glass and we are talking about the dealership has 300 something used cars on the lot with minimal profit margins little expenses add up get with the times all the prices are online the days of window markers on windshields are gone.
my car just died today. fml man.
Your reasons for putting prices on your Windows are completely different from dealers who don’t?
Here in South FL, many times they tell you the price of the vehicle and once you're doing the numbers then they tell you by the way there's a fee of $4995 for "market adjustment" that's just predatory lending at its finest.
Brandon, I know used car prices are all over the map. As long as we're not shopping at Carvana or Carmax, can't a customer pull a MMR Car price report off of a VIN, subtract about $2,000, and know about what the Dealer paid for that car at auction? I'm just working my car buying logic backwards after having watched some of your recent videos.
They put no prices on the cars because it attracts uninformed buyers. If I am in the market for a Ford Ranger I know you are not the only car dealer selling a Ford Ranger. I will check all dealers within 50 miles and compare the prices, options, mileage and such. Then I will go check out the ones that I feel are the best options. Simple. These dealers want to get the people who don't research, shop, and compare. These type of people are also easiest to sell financing to or add ons. These dealers are trying to attract a particular type of customer, plain and simple. You know the ones that wonder away from the herd and are easy pickins.
“Wouldn’t you like every customer to get the cheapest price?” – (woman laughs). Pretty much sums it up.
Having a price on the window increases the odds that I will even pull in to look at cars on the lot.
I went to buy a truck advertised on a website before. When I showed up the salesman said the price was higher. I had printed off the web page and brought it with me. They wouldn’t honor the price. I left, checkbook in hand, I was a cash customer, it could of been sold.
I go to CarMax, the extra price is well worth it.
Gas stations play that game with price. $2.799. Come on, call it $2.8. That red Ranger you keep walking by, I wonder if that faded paint can be buffed out?
If you don't have prices on your vehicles or website, I keep on rolling by. I recently looked at my local dealers website and most of the vehicles said "call for price". F that noise. Keep your vehicle then.
Just another dealer scam. They'll take you to the bank 7 days a week.
You forgot to tell them that you don’t want to talk to salesperson.
Set a budget and pay cash it eliminates all the hassle. Thanks for the lesson today
Most rich people stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then most poor people stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich but impressing them
My brother in law recently quit his job as car salesman, he said he now has friends.
Brandon, you're famous now, no longer need to say your name during the into's. 🤠
most people are going to check online. I went to a car lot and the prices were listed there. not everyone does that.
What a bunch of lying slugs – and Ford dealers are the WORST!
There is a reason that dealers and politicians are among the least respected people in the US. They are also on the list of the least honest folks.
