Why We Love Winter Camping

It’s winter camping time! Each year we make our journey to Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan’s UP. This year, instead of a campervan, we hauled up a 32-foot fifth wheel. And wouldn’t you know, the weather turned particularly nasty as we neared our destination. But that didn’t spoil an awesome camping experience!

You guys are awesome

Patty K

Wow that was so scary driving that 5th wheel across the bridge with snow and wind! I'm glad you made it there safely and had a great time. Looks beautiful!

John John

Mike and Jen hats off to u both. Your braver than me. Not familiar with the driving habits of the Northern Michiganers or how congested the roads. I would never drive a fifth wheel or a TT in snow conditions in the Mid Atlantic region where we live. Drivers are inconsiderate and drive bad enough in dry weather. Snow brings out the worst habits. Enjoy

What an inspiration! This was a really good video! I like how you showed there are many others who also like to winter camp. Love your walks and all the scenery! Very well done!

Jessica Christopher

We love the Omni heat line, I have gloves, boots, jacket, vest, pants, hat and more. We got them for Alaska but I also wear them on the motorcycle. Nothing better to keep me warm.

Shawn Patterson

great video. I see others have asked and I am curious too. How do you handle your water and sewage situation? We do have "heat pads on our tanks" and an enclosed underbelly, but does that really cut it? Heating would be no issue when parked, especially if you are in a site with electric, but …. any updates you have on this subject would be greatly appreciated… As always, safe travels……

Perfect weather for Bo. It has been so warm this winter in Michigan, my elkies are shedding again.

David Truesdell

Have you ever looked into a product called "FrostGuard'? It covers the windshield and mirrors so that you don't have to scrape the windshield when it snows or freezes up. I have one and love it.

Question: Do these campgrounds provide electricity, or are you boondocking. I just figured that solar panels are useless in those snowy conditions.

Emma Flores

Looks like you had an amazing time

Pat O'Brien

Your cautions are appropriate. Brings genuineness to your video. Thanks.

We always pull over asap when people are behind us and it's safe. Makes for good relations and a lot less concern. Nice photography though

Is your rig 4 season?

Thanks for sharing this story, truly beautiful. I agree regarding the cold, if you dress in layers and hike you stay very warm and comfortable. For your hands, the small hot packs on your palms do a great job. Love seeing Beau in his natural environment, you can see how much he loves playing in the snow and trees.

Are there snow tires for rvs?

I live in Colorado, so I know what snow driving is. I would not tow in that kind of weather. It's just not worth the risk.

KittyShackTracks

Hats off to you for towing in winter. We are in northern Minnesota and wouldn’t dream of taking our 5th wheel out. What are you running for tires on your truck? Have fun!😊

Happy News

Lady is hilarious. Everyone fleeing the snow. one up that were go find more snow. LOL,,,

Barbara Kirchner

I do miss the snow but never have camped in it. I think the icy roads which I’m not very experienced with might be a hindrance as well as the fact my husband never wants to be near snow. It’s so beautiful. I enjoyed being there in my imagination with you guys! 💕

Debra Currie

Love this! You make such great videos. I think the best. You have a wonderful combination of talk and music with all your video. I also have a heated vest. The vest is amazing. Enjoyed watching BO in the snow. I was born in Grand Rapids and moved at 16 (dad got a job in oregon). Also lived in Saginaw. Family in south haven. Thanks for your videos.

mary jane Burgess

i asked my husband if he wanted to go winter camping? He said, "might as well, we've done everything else!" my sone and family have camped there.

Debbie L

Thank you Jen and Mike, Great video! We have traveled to the UP and it is beautiful in the summer. Winter is even better!
