Living in your car as a homeless person is such an American concept. In most of the world, if you're having money troubles, the car is the first expense to go, and housing the last. But it seems like in America, a car is a basic human necessity.

So if you're homeless, just do stuff that will either drain your battery or your gas.
Oh and you need a car.

MotoTherapy

Park in cover. Car port, parking garage, etc. I also put would put a car cover on my car I felt like over time it did make it a little more comfortable as it dampens wind and the air that’s under the cover is more stagnant rather than a cool chill always hitting the car. Btw I use a car cover with a door entry zipper

Sammyboy1335

But if you don't turn your car on your battery can die

Just a little physics for you. Running your car uses fuel. Using a battery when it's cold makes the battery run poorly. Using the car battery with the engine off is the same, and can bring the battery below the threshold for starting the car.

The interesting bit (energy is never created it just changes form) if you use the battery in the car you need to charge it. Doing so in the car is going to mean the car will need to use a little more fuel to run until the battery is fully charged. All you are doing is using more fuel than you would just running the engine owing to the losses in energy transfer and conversion. However the equation changes if you account for running the engine just to get from A to B while charging the battery, as this then becomes a more economical option.

Just remember a battery is not storing energy it's a chemical reaction in a box with the potential to provide limited power on demand with limitations set by the quality and types of chemicals.

A good alternative is to use actual stored heat – you can buy 3 or 4 foot long hot water bottles, 1 is usually enough, 2 if you have extreme cold. These can give 7 to 8 hours warmth, can be safer and easily topped up if you have frequent access to hot water from a supportive retailer, fast food restaurant, or community group.
