Hr-m-Axt, (Heru on the Horizon) The Sphinx complex is the only location with (erosion) in the immediate vicinity. It was there before the MR (Mer) pyramids were built. It looks like there was a runoff from the massive construction site. It would take a LOT of water to construct the blocks from limestone concrete. Each row of blocks was poured wet enough for gravity to make them level. The excess slurry would run into the pit with the abrasive media, scouring out the damage to the Sphinx.

I had a thought. I Googled a picture of Pangea. And if you look at the location of where the Egyptian pyramids were. It was roundabout in the exact center of the landmass. Not sure what significance that makes. But it could open another avenue of thinking as to what their purpose was. Different perspectives bring different ideas. Perhaps at the time they were made, they could have been landmarkers. So when you travel so far away, you have some reference of where you need to go back to.
