The hidden corridor in the Great Pyramid has been seen for the first time

Officials in Egypt say they have confirmed the existence of a secret inner corridor above the main entrance to the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Taken with an endoscope, the video shows the inside of the 9-meter-long and 2.1-meter-wide corridor.

Officials say the corridor in question may have been created to redistribute the weight of the pyramid around the entrance or another room that has yet to be explored. However, the exact function of the inaccessible room is unknown.

This mysterious gap was first detected in 2016 using an imaging technique called muography.

A team of scientists from the ScanPyramids Project were able to determine density changes inside the pyramid by analyzing how muons, the by-products of cosmic rays only partially absorbed by the stone, penetrate inside the pyramid.
