The oldest known pyramid in Egypt is the Step Pyramid at Saqqara which is believed to be built in 2630 BC. Constructed as a mastaba for King Djoser, the architectural design of the first pyramid became more majestic as his ambitious successors erected newer versions.

The Great Pyramid of Giza, the other two pyramidal structures beside it, and the mysterious Sphinx are all said to be later creations of Egyptian architects.

The massive size of these pyramids combined with near-perfect engineering makes modern researchers wonder how the feat was achieved. This is where the theories begin.
