Megalithomania’s Hugh Newman and author Andrew Collins visit Gunung Padang in Java, Indonesia. Geologist Danny Hilman Natawidjaja joined the team to explore and analyse the huge hilltop pyramid site, finding massive megalithic columns, and spherical stones that were the foundations of the main structure, as well as unusual magnetic anomalies and ‘mortar’ or cement that may be the oldest on earth, as the dating on numerous cultural levels puts it back to up to 24,000 years old. This site featured on the recent Netflix show hosted by Graham Hancock, ‘Ancient Apocalypse.’

This is a natural site…the stairs were cut to size in early 1900s. Those blocks were just useful in building bc they are rectangular naturally. No artifacts..no writing..

I'd never heard of this site until I began watching the new Netflix series with Graham Hancock. I couldn't get through 10 minutes of it–heavily overproduced, intrusive music–but my interest was piqued, so I looked on YouTube, and here I am, happily satisfied. Great work!

The rooms or chambers needn't necessarily be rectangular. They could have been circular or some other convenient geometric shape.

The dark stuff is basalt the light stuff is andesite. They are different stones with different compositions.
Andesite is a volcanic rock "similar" to basalt only lighter in color and containing less iron and magnesium than basalt. Often containing phenocrysts (large conspicuous crystals), Andesite is a host rock for Andesine, a precious gemstone. A majority of the Earth's continental crust is composed of andesitic rocks.
